Join a dynamic healthcare team in the Pacific Northwest region as a Patient Access Specialist I, where your role is vital in delivering compassionate and high-quality customer service. This position focuses on ensuring patients are accurately scheduled and registered for various clinic and hospital services, supporting them throughout their care journey, including managing financial responsibilities.
Job Responsibilities- Schedule and register patients using specialized software, ensuring data accuracy including patient identification and insurance verification.
- Verify referrals and pre-authorizations for applicable services.
- Conduct registration interviews prior to patient visits.
- Perform point-of-service collections such as co-payments and co-insurances, manage daily cash drawer operations, and generate payment receipts.
- Operate multi-line telephone systems to handle incoming calls professionally and promptly, relaying information to appropriate staff.
- Respond to patient inquiries, ensuring comfort, dignity, safety, and confidentiality.
- Complete daily assignments, administrative tasks, and manage mail processing.
- Research workflow improvements and participate in special projects as assigned.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate's Degree preferred.
- Healthcare experience is advantageous.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare revenue cycle is preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is encouraged.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professionalism and accuracy.
- Proficiency in insurance verification through various online and telephone systems.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and office equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and prioritization skills.
- Calm and professional demeanor during high-stress situations.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing workloads and tasks.
- Effective written and verbal communication, with sensitivity to patients' emotional and social needs.
- Discretion in handling confidential information.
- Ability to maintain accurate documentation and a clean, organized workspace.
- Team-oriented with collaborative and constructive engagement.
Work Environment and Schedule This is a full-time position with 8-hour shifts, totaling 40 hours per week, under a service union contract.
