As a Grooming Salon Leader at Petco, you will lead salon operations and staff, while delivering expert grooming services to our valued customers' pets. Job Summary The Grooming Salon Leader’s primary purpose is to lead and manage grooming salon operations and salon staff. The Grooming Salon Leader is responsible for delivering a high level of customer satisfaction, fostering a positive work environment, driving salon performance, and developing and coaching both entry‑level and seasoned groomers. In addition, the Grooming Salon Leader performs expert‑level grooming services, including bathing, drying, brushing, haircuts and styling, nail trimming, ear cleaning, and gland cleaning, while prioritizing the safety, comfort and well‑being of each pet. Recruit, hire, train, and supervise a team of groomers, fostering a positive, collaborative work environment. Create and manage grooming schedules that optimize salon capacity and customer demand. Monitor salon performance metrics (revenue, customer satisfaction, productivity), analyze data, and implement improvement plans. Collaborate with store management to achieve sales targets and salon objectives. Interact professionally with pet parents, providing exceptional customer service and grooming recommendations. Stay current on grooming industry trends and best practices. Perform professional grooming services, adhering to breed standards and company policies. Operate and maintain grooming instruments (clippers, blades, shears, brushes, dryers). Evaluate each pet’s needs and provide tailored maintenance advice to owners. Ensure pet safety and well‑being, monitoring for discomfort or injury and reporting concerns. Maintain a clean and sanitary grooming area, disinfecting tools and equipment according to Petco hygiene policies. Education & Experience Minimum of 2 years experience as a professional groomer or completion of a technical grooming training program. Strong leadership skills; 1–2 years of salon management or related experience preferred. High‑school diploma or GED preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Expert knowledge of dog breeds, grooming requirements, and common health issues. Proficiency in breed‑specific cuts, styling techniques, and grooming standards. Passion for animals and commitment to a career in pet grooming. Must‑Have Competencies Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving skills. Results‑driven focus on salon productivity and growth. Attention to detail and commitment to high standards. Ability to handle pets of all sizes and temperaments with care and empathy. Full‑time availability (minimum 35 hours per week, including weekends, evenings, and holidays as required). Work Environment The majority of duties are performed indoors within the salon. The position requires bending, kneeling, lifting up to 30 pounds, and prolonged standing. Some work may involve use of a two‑step ladder or other support tools. The environment can be noisy and wet.
