Software Engineer, Mission Interface

Salary: $139,000 - 166,800 per year Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, with typically 4+ years of relevant experience; or a Masters degree in one of these fields with typically 0–3+ years of experience
• Strong C++ programming ability (C++14/17 or newer), ideally in real-time, safety-critical, or high-performance systems
• Solid understanding of vehicle dynamics and kinematic models, such as bicycle models, Ackermann steering, and dynamic feasibility
• Ability to produce clean, maintainable, and testable code, grounded in strong software engineering practices
• 5+ years of experience architecting, designing, and implementing embedded software solutions
• Experience writing scalable C++ code
• Experience optimizing code for speed, memory usage, and related performance factors
• Experience validating solutions through unit testing and/or system-level testing
• Experience creating technical documentation to explain solutions

• Design, build, and refine software that connects Autonomy with Mission Control, Remote Assistance, Route Advisor, and On Truck Management systems for mission planning, launch, updates, progress tracking, and telemetry monitoring
• Lead development of real-time C++ components that support vehicle guidance and status monitoring for the self-driving truck
• Turn system-level needs into scalable software architectures and algorithms, along with component-level requirements and verification artifacts
• Contribute to simulation and testing environments that validate algorithms across a range of operational design domains
• Partner with cross-functional teams across back office, perception, controls, and safety to support end-to-end integration
• Mentor teammates through technical reviews, best-practice guidance, and hands-on collaboration
• Stay informed on route planning research and analytical planning methods, and help integrate machine learning where appropriate, including rerouting, learned cost models, behavior prediction, and reinforcement learning for tactical decisions
• Improve software quality, safety, performance, and development processes continuously
• Support safety-critical development practices aligned with automotive standards and production release expectations
• Communicate technical ideas clearly to non-technical stakeholders
