Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Overview We are a group of sister hospitals that brings a large variety of skill sets and environments to experience. We also host several specialists at our Vinton location, offering opportunities to observe higher‑level procedures and practices such as advanced ultrasound, advanced dentistry, advanced nutrition, and more. Responsibilities Gather patient histories Perform physical examinations Create treatment plans Conduct diagnostics Provide dentistry services Observe, assist, or perform surgical procedures Manage patient medical care Practice clinical skills and communication abilities with the medical team, support staff, and clients Internship Details Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students (regardless of class year) are encouraged to participate in NVA externships. Veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education are eligible for a travel/living expense stipend.
