Cardiovascular Technologist

Work Shifts 9:00 A.M – 5:00 P.M 35 Weekly Hours Duties & Responsibilities Purpose of Position : Under direct supervision, serves as an integral member of the cardiovascular multidisciplinary team and assists and provides support to personnel by preparing and maintaining patient monitoring devices and lab delivery systems. Through the utilization of specialized equipment assists in performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures resulting in accurate diagnosis and optimal treatment of heart disease while maintaining maximum patient safety and comfort. Ensures optimal utilization of resources, services and compliance with all applicable local, state, federal and national rules and regulations, infection control standards and NYC Health + Hospitals standards of care to improve outcomes and the patient experience. Examples of Typical Tasks : 1. Assists Interventional Cardiologists and Cardiologists with Cardiac Catheterization, Endovascular procedures, and all other diagnostic and interventional procedures and non-invasive test/procedures. 2. Implements safe, competent and efficient procedural care to cardiovascular patients within policies, procedures and standards of care across a variety of populations and complexity of situations within scope of practice. 3. Prepares and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum view of specific body area as requested by the physician, including properly positioning the patient on the examining table. Prepares patients for procedure, including positioning, shaving, cleaning, non-invasive, invasive and vascular procedures/tests ensuring the appropriate paperwork, equipment, supplies, and instruments are available and assessable. 4. Supports the diagnosing and treating of cardiac and endovascular ailments by assisting physicians with diagnostic, interventional and vascular procedures, sets up sterile field, scrubbing, circulation and patient monitoring. 5. Ensures that all diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization labs, areas have the necessary monitors, equipment and supplies prior to cases, procedures etc. 6. Follows all proper diagnostic and interventional cardiac catheterization lab, patient, and employee safety protocols; adheres to all appropriate infection prevention, control and containment, measures. 7. Sets-up for cases, calibrates, troubleshoots, assembles, maintains and cleans lab machines and patient monitoring equipment, according to manufacturer instructions and infection control requirements; promptly removes/reports broken, malfunctioning or missing supplies/equipment, or the need for special equipment and/or replenishment of supplies to appropriate personnel. 8. Maintains Inventories and stocks lab, machines, carts and cabinets with necessary supplies, maintain optimal par levels, and ensures that no expired items; accurately reports to Supervisor/appropriate personnel of items expired, needs to be ordered. 9. Ensures and maintains records/logs of equipment’s and devices maintenance, as recommended by manufacturers. Maintains and updates quality control documentation logs. 10. Effectively uses electronic medical records (EMR) to verify medical history, document patient services/encounters, forms, and other records. Manages, maintains, and updates pertinent patient data. 11. Prepares and monitors patient’s physiologic and hemodynamic data, pre, intra, and post-procedural, including completion of electro-cardio-grams (EKG/ECG). In addition, may complete non-Invasive tests such as treadmill, stress tests, obtains baseline heart rate and blood pressure readings. 12. Reviews Physician interpretations and completes procedural reports while adhering to guidelines and standards. 13. Collaborates, communicates and interacts with physicians and all staff, promptly reports abnormal findings. 14. Participates in and/or completes internal/external quality assurance/performance improvement (QA/PI) activities, programs, trainings and related mandated health care events, as required. 15. Performs other related duties, as directed. Minimum Qualifications 1. Current certification or registration from a national certifying or accrediting agency in a specialty area of cardiovascular specialization (e.g., Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International). 2. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA).
