King County's Wastewater Treatment Division is seeking an Industrial Maintenance Worker . This is an excellent opportunity to join the maintenance team at the West Point Treatment Plant and gain hands-on experience supporting the maintenance and repair of critical wastewater treatment equipment. Working alongside experienced mechanics and trades professionals, you'll assist with preventive maintenance, equipment repairs, facility upkeep, and a variety of tasks that help keep one of the region's most important treatment facilities operating safely and efficiently. About The Role:
This position supports the maintenance team at the West Point Treatment Plant by assisting with the inspection, maintenance, repair, and upkeep of a wide variety of mechanical equipment and facilities. Working alongside experienced mechanics and other skilled trades staff, you will help perform preventive maintenance, equipment repairs, material handling, housekeeping, and other tasks essential to maintaining reliable plant operations. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience with industrial equipment, including pumps, conveyors, piping systems, valves, and other wastewater treatment infrastructure. The successful candidate will be a dependable team player who is eager to learn, works safely, and contributes to a positive and collaborative work environment. Work is performed both independently and under the direction of journey-level mechanics and may involve operating tools and equipment, assisting with maintenance projects, and supporting emergency and scheduled maintenance activities. To ensure a safe work environment, employees are required to follow established safety procedures, wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and comply with Lockout/Tagout requirements when working around electrical, mechanical, and environmental hazards. Duties may also include working in and around Permit-Required Confined Spaces under established safety protocols.

- Assist journey-level mechanics and other skilled trades staff with the maintenance, repair, inspection, and servicing of mechanical equipment, including pumps, motors, conveyors, valves, piping systems, and other wastewater treatment plant equipment.
- Perform routine preventive maintenance activities such as cleaning, lubricating, inspecting equipment, changing filters, replacing basic components, and preparing equipment for maintenance and repair work.
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of piping systems, equipment, structures, and facility infrastructure while following established procedures and safety requirements.
- Safely operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools, material handling equipment, and shop equipment used in support of maintenance activities. Maintain clean, safe, and organized work areas, shops, and storage locations.
- Support maintenance projects by transporting materials, setting up work sites, assisting with equipment repairs, and performing general labor duties as assigned.
- Follow all safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), Lockout/Tagout requirements, and confined space entry protocols when applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned in support of the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the West Point Treatment Plant.
- Knowledge of the safe use and care of common hand and power tools used in maintenance, construction, automotive, industrial, or related work environments.
- Ability to perform physical labor and support maintenance activities, including lifting materials, cleaning equipment, transporting supplies, and working in industrial environments.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to learn maintenance procedures, equipment operation, and repair techniques under the direction of experienced staff.
- Knowledge of workplace safety practices and the ability to follow established safety procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

- Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week, Monday - Friday. This position is covered under the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) and is overtime eligible.

- Physical Requirement: Incumbents perform field work at a wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities and are required to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, work in confined spaces, use ladders, and there is exposure to hazardous chemicals, noxious odors and high noise levels, and potentially slippery or uneven surfaces. Employees regularly operate heavy machinery, rigging, and power tools. Must be able to safely perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods, including standing, bending, kneeling, and reaching while completing maintenance, repair, and installation work. A pre-employment physical, review of driving record and reference checks will be conducted prior to any final job offer.
