Job Summary (Emergency Department Registered Nurse)
- Initiate and implement plans of care based on medical and nursing diagnoses, using knowledge of illnesses, injuries, and outlined standards of care.
- Provide direct nursing care to patients using the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Assess and monitor patients' physical status and treatment needs, correlating physician orders with diagnoses.
- Possess knowledge of laboratory procedures and values related to patient diagnoses.
- Admit, transfer, and discharge patients efficiently and effectively.
- Document patient care clearly, accurately, and concisely on clinical records and initial assessments, updating at least every 2 hours and as patient status changes.
- Coordinate and communicate with other departments, shifts, and ancillary staff to ensure high-quality, continuous, and safe patient care.
- Anticipate potential problems and adapt to changing unit needs.
- Consistently follow and enforce established safety and infection control procedures; intervene in unsafe situations.
- Maintain satisfactory relationships with other departments and nursing areas to promote a safe environment.
- Work night shifts, with possible varied day/night shifts as needed.
- Requirements:
- Active State of California Registered Nurse license
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS or ENPC certifications (American Heart Association or Red Cross)
- NRP certification preferred
- Minimum four years Emergency Room nursing experience
