Industrial Engineer

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–3:30 PM
Work Arrangement: Fully Onsite
Contract: 52 Weeks with Potential for Extension/Direct Hire

We are seeking an experienced Industrial Engineer to join the Industrial Engineering team supporting manufacturing operations in Flint. This role will focus on continuous improvement, standardized work, time studies, plant layouts, line balancing, throughput improvements, and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.

The Industrial Engineer will work closely with machining operators, production leadership, process engineers, UAW employees, and salaried personnel to identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, and efficiency throughout the manufacturing process.

This is a highly collaborative, hands-on position that combines data analysis and engineering work with significant interaction on the production floor.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop, document, and maintain standardized work procedures.
• Conduct time studies, motion analysis, and standard time evaluations.
• Create and maintain accurate workstation and production layouts using AutoCAD.
• Identify bottlenecks and implement improvements to increase throughput and productivity.
• Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives focused on eliminating waste.
• Develop line balancing plans and support production trials and change-management activities.
• Analyze operator workloads and value-added percentages to improve productivity.
• Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives and implementation of the Global Manufacturing System (GMS).
• Train and coach production team members on standardized work and Lean Manufacturing principles.
• Gather and analyze manufacturing data to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Prepare PowerPoint presentations and data summaries for team and leadership reviews.
• Spend time on the production floor working directly with operators and leadership to understand issues and develop solutions.
• Support area managers with engineering projects, including layout development and project implementation.
• Drive structured problem-solving efforts and follow improvements through implementation.
• Build strong working relationships with Production, Engineering, UAW employees, and other plant personnel.
• Collaborate with task owners to ensure projects are properly implemented and sustained.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent.
• 3–5+ years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience with Continuous Improvement initiatives.
• Experience documenting and implementing Standardized Work.
• Experience with Lean Manufacturing principles and practices.
• Knowledge of time studies and motion analysis.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD or other computer-aided drafting tools.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of an organization.
• Ability to adapt communication and interpersonal styles when working with different groups and personalities.
• Self-motivated with a strong focus on continuous improvement.
• Ability to work occasional weekends and holidays when needed to support projects.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong AutoCAD experience.
• Experience working with machining operations and CNC equipment.
• Understanding of machining processes and manufacturing process flow.
• Experience with ergonomic analysis / Human Factors Engineering.
• Project management and time management experience.
• Previous experience working in a union or bargaining-unit environment.
• Experience supporting manufacturing plants with machining operations.

What You'll Do Day-to-Day:

A typical day may include:

• Pulling manufacturing data and analyzing performance metrics.
• Preparing PowerPoint presentations for team reviews.
• Participating in floor review meetings.
• Working directly with machining operators and production leadership to understand manufacturing issues.
• Conducting time studies and reviewing standardized work.
• Creating or updating AutoCAD layouts.
• Identifying bottlenecks and developing throughput improvements.
• Supporting line balancing and production trials.
• Managing improvement projects for the area manager.
• Working with project task owners to implement and sustain improvements.
