Position Summary Tacoma Community College seeks an innovative, student‑centered part‑time professor to join the Healthcare Pathway in Emergency Medical Services (EMS). The instructor will develop, prepare, and teach courses across classroom, skills lab, and field settings, including EMT‑Basic and Paramedic coursework. This position reports directly to the Dean of Healthcare. Essential Functions Prepare and teach associate-level EMS curriculum, including EMT‑Basic and Paramedic courses, in classroom, skills lab, clinical, and field settings Develop course syllabi, schedules, instructional materials, assessments, and evaluate student learning outcomes Collaborate with EMS program faculty, the Program Chair, and staff on curriculum development and continuous program improvement Employ inclusive, student‑centered teaching strategies that support a diverse student population Foster a positive, professional learning environment that promotes student success and retention Supervise and advise students regarding didactic, skills lab, clinical, and field performance Provide clear, timely, and constructive feedback aligned with program standards and expectations Serve as a liaison with clinical and field training sites, as appropriate Identify instructional equipment and resource needs to maintain a current and effective learning environment Collaborate with EMS advisory committee members and community partners to ensure curriculum alignment with local industry standards and workforce needs Maintain regular office hours in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement Utilize the college’s learning management system (e.g., Canvas) and instructional technologies to support teaching and learning Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum review and design, campus committees, and division and college activities Engage in ongoing professional development, including equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives Meet applicable institutional and program accreditation standards and support overall college accreditation processes Perform other related duties as assigned Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Current EMT-basic, AEMT, or Paramedic certification 3 years of recent full-time experience in Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Currently endorsed as a Senior EMT Instructor (SEI), or eligible to obtain endorsement within one year of hire Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software AHA BLS Provider Instructor certification, or ability to obtain within 2 months of hire Preferred Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a related field from an accredited college or university Teaching experience in the EMS field Conditions of Employment Criminal background check required prior to start of employment No obligation to sponsor an H‑1B visa; proof of authorization to work in the United States required at time of hire Part‑time faculty contracts on a quarterly basis; classes may be on Tacoma or Gig Harbor campus, hybrid online, or fully online (Canvas) Evening hours may be required Eligible for health and retirement benefits after the second consecutive quarter of full‑time or more equivalent teaching Tacoma Community College provides equal opportunity in education and employment and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, creed, religion, or status as a veteran of war.
