About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: RN (Registered Nurse) Specialty: Med Surg ICU Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12H Nights Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Active RN license Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: Understanding of drug-free campus policies and ability to produce a negative drug screen Description: This position is within a medical-surgical ICU that has 6 private rooms. The nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 RN to 2 patients. The average daily census is 6 patients. Telemetry is managed by a telemetry technician. Nurses manage vasopressors, paralytics, bicarbonate, insulin, and ventilators. Hospitalists are in-house for 12-hour shifts, and an eICU hospitalist is available from 7 PM to 7 AM. All rooms are equipped with cameras and sound for the eICU. There is 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy coverage either onsite or through an on-call service. Shifts are 12 hours from 7 PM to 7:30 AM. Nurses may float to intermediate care as needed, with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1 RN to 4 or 5 patients. Orientation consists of 2 shifts specific to the floor. Common diagnoses include CAP, sepsis, post-surgical bowel resection, carotid endarterectomy, hernia repair, COPD, and DKA. EKG interpretation and general ICU background experience with titration of vasopressors, vent care, and insulin drips are required. Weekends are currently required every other week, transitioning to every third weekend. If a holiday falls on a nurse's scheduled weekend, they will be required to work. No specific color scrubs are mandated for this position.
