HVAC Technician II (Facilities)

Location: Carlsbad, CA
Client: Ionis Pharmaceuticals
Duration: 6-Month Contract-to-Hire
Pay Rate: 33/hr

Overview

Ionis Pharmaceuticals is seeking an HVAC Technician II to support facilities operations within a growing lab and office environment. This individual will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and monitoring HVAC and building systems to ensure optimal performance and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on HVAC systems, including:
• • VAV boxes
  • Fan coils and air handlers
  • Hydronic systems (boilers & chillers)
• Monitor and operate Building Management Systems (BMS)
• Diagnose system issues (e.g., leaks, faulty coils, airflow problems)
• Ensure proper function of valves, dampers, and controls
• Support refrigeration systems, including lab equipment and mobile freezers
• Coordinate with vendors for major repairs and escalations
• Perform routine system inspections and maintenance checks
• Navigate facility spaces, including ladders, stairs, and confined areas

Required Qualifications

• 3–4+ years of HVAC experience in commercial environments
• EPA Refrigeration Certification
• Experience with chilled water and heating systems
• Familiarity with BMS systems and controls
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in laboratory or pharmaceutical environments
• Experience with Thermo Scientific refrigeration units
• Exposure to mini-split systems

-\tFlexible scheduling (generally ~7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, but adaptable)
