Software Engineer IBM i/AS400

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• We require formal training or certification in software engineering concepts, along with 3+ years of applied experience.
• We need hands-on experience using enterprise-authorized AI-assisted software development tools in the work environment, including coding, test creation, troubleshooting, or documentation, with the ability to assess, verify, and refine AI-generated output for accuracy, performance, and security.
• We expect an understanding of responsible AI usage in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, secure handling of inputs and outputs, and alignment with resiliency and security standards, with the ability to coach peers on safe and effective practices.
• We need IBM iSeries (AS/400) development experience, including DB2 for i files, views, indexes, triggers, and stored procedures.
• We require experience with LANSA / Visual LANSA IDE development, including upgrade planning and execution.
• We need experience with IBM MQ and CDC Replication (InfoSphere CDC / IIDR or equivalent).
• We require Java and Python experience on IBM i in the PASE environment.
• We need strong debugging experience with STRDBG, STRISDB, service entry points, job logs, Visual Explain, and remote Java/Python debugging.
• We require experience supporting resiliency and maintenance, including HA/DR, PTF management, performance tuning, and technical debt remediation.
• We need experience with Git-based version control tools such as Bitbucket or GitHub, as well as Aldon LMI, Robot Scheduling, and ServiceNow.
• We require familiarity with AI-powered tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, and Claude agents, plus prompt engineering for legacy code analysis.
• Preferred: strong proficiency in CLP, CLLE, RPGLE, SQLRPGLE, and LANSA development in free-format where possible.
• Preferred: experience with ILE concepts, service programs, modular application design, and exposure to web services such as REST or SOAP from IBM i or Python/Java.
• Preferred: knowledge of data areas, data queues, and inter-process communication on IBM i, plus familiarity with IBM i Access Client Solutions, Navigator, RDi, or VS Code with the Code for IBM i extension.
• Preferred: hands-on experience with HA/DR tools such as MIMIX, iTera, Quick-EDD, or IBM PowerHA.
• Preferred: ITIL foundation knowledge for service management and change advisory processes.
• Preferred: experience integrating AI tools into CI/CD pipelines or automated code review workflows, along with understanding of AI governance, responsible use policies, and data privacy considerations when using LLMs with enterprise code.
• Preferred: SAFe or other scaled Agile framework experience, and understanding of CI/CD pipelines in an IBM i context.

• We execute software solutions, design and development work, and technical troubleshooting, using creative problem-solving beyond routine approaches.
• We create secure, high-quality production code and maintain algorithms that run synchronously with the appropriate systems.
• We use enterprise-authorized AI coding tools to improve code quality, delivery speed, and productivity across complex work, while validating outputs through peer review, automated testing, and secure coding standards.
• We apply knowledge of SDLC tools, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to increase the value delivered through automation.
• We produce architecture and design artifacts for complex applications and ensure software code meets design constraints.
• We gather, analyze, synthesize, and visualize large, diverse data sets to support continuous improvement of software applications and systems.
• We proactively identify hidden issues and patterns in data to improve coding hygiene and system architecture.
• We contribute to software engineering communities of practice and events that explore emerging technologies.
