About POST 84 :
POST 84 is a student-led organization that operates mainly out of central and south Seattle. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and one of the largest student-run organizations in Washington. We run an average of 16-18 trips a year (approx. 52 days in total) ranging from 12-120 students per trip, primarily from Seattle Public Schools. Our trips teach skills ranging from setting up camping tents to rock climbing. We introduce students to the outdoors, and challenge students to step out of their comfort zone. Across the program, we strive to empower students who otherwise wouldn’t or couldn’t engage with the outdoors.
POST is a primarily volunteer-run program led by high school students with support from a board of community members, as well as a small team of paid adult staff (one full-time Executive Director and two part-time Assistant Directors).
Position Overview : The Development Director will oversee all fundraising and fund management including grant applications, management of grant awards, and reporting requirements. The Development Director will support and oversee finance and fundraising for Post 84, and work closely with the treasurer and Executive Director.
Responsibilities:
- Fundraising Management
- Oversee and support youth leaders in all fundraising campaigns.
- Oversee creation of annual impact reports, data collection, and other operations reporting for successful communication with donors.
- Ensure proper donor stewardship, thank you notes, and tracking of all gifts
- Mentor student leaders in planning, organizing, and running the annual fundraising gala.
- Grant Administration & Acquisition
- Collaborate with students to identify and pursue grant opportunities and major donor gifts, with a focus on building long-term relationships with local foundations and funders that align with POST 84’s mission and values.
- Oversee the grant application process, including researching, writing, and submitting grant proposals, with student involvement and voice.
- Ensure compliance with grant requirements, regulations, and reporting obligations. Maintain grant records and monitor grant deliverables, timelines, and reporting deadlines.
- Collaborate closely with youth leaders to align grant activities with the educational goals of POST 84’s outdoor programs.
- Work in coordination with the finance team to manage grant budgets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Finance & Nonprofit Compliance Management
- Mentor youth Finance Lead in management of records through Quickbooks, documenting receipts, and documenting and reviewing monthly financials.
- Develop and track annual budget
- Work closely with the board treasurer, youth finance manager, and organization’s accountant to ensure all organizational finance records are up to date, accurate, and fit compliance requirements.
- Ensure nonprofit status compliance including submitting annual report, updating annual registrations and insurances, and oversee proper organization and storage of files.
- Team Leadership and Capacity Building
- Develop and lead a Fundraising & Grant Management Workgroup, including student leaders, community board members, and alumni.
- Collaborate with, support, and mentor student leaders in managing organization fundraising, media presence, and finances.
- Design a 3-5 year grant financial sustainability strategy in collaboration with the finance team.
- Attend monthly board meetings, weekly meetings with student leaders (as needed), and monthly meetings with the Board President.
- Plan alumni events and involvement opportunities to support fundraising goals, chaperone involvement, and overall success of organization.
Minimum qualifications :
- 2+ years of experience working with high-school-age youth, preferably in a mentorship or education capacity.
- The applicant must be permanently authorized to work in the United States and be over the age of 25. POST will run a background check before offering employment.
- 2+ years of experience with nonprofit administration, grant management, and fundraising.
- Familiarity with or ability to learn and implement donor management software.
- High School diploma
Desired Qualifications:
- Nonprofit management experience, including any of: finance, fundraising, outreach, media, web design, development, administration, human resources, or others
- Experience with outdoor education, expeditionary, and/or camp programs
- Strong data analysis skills
- Strong financial management experience including Quickbooks
- Experience overseeing creation and management of organizational budget
- Associate’s degree or higher in relevant field (e.g. Nonprofit Management, Communications, Business Administration, Finance, or other)

Work Location: All regular meetings (approx. 3-5 hours per week) will be held at the POST Headquarters in central Seattle (845 Hiawatha Place South, 98144).
Compensation : Rate of $35-45/hour based on experience. Hours worked are not to exceed 40 per month unless authorized by written agreement between employee and the Board President. The Development Director will complete and submit timesheets using an online payroll system at the end of each month. Payment will be sent monthly via Direct Deposit, and payment for the prior month’s hours will be deposited by the 10th of the following month. Expenses related to attending trips and miscellaneous duties (coffee with student leaders, funders, board members) will also be covered or reimbursed. Travel using a personal vehicle will be reimbursed per IRS standard mileage rate.
At-Will Agreement: This position is an at-will agreement between employer (POST) and employee. At-will employment refers to an employment agreement stating that employment may be terminated either by employer or employee at any time for any reason.
