General Services - Maintenance

Maintenance Position

Performs a variety of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance functions in an institutional environment. These functions may include both preventative and repair services, requiring carpentry, automotive, masonry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, locksmith, and mechanical knowledge. These tasks will be accomplished in a correctional institution and may require the ability to work independently and without direct supervision.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

• Constant regard must be maintained in following all security and safety protocols. The maintenance person within the correctional facility must comply with all rules and regulations.
• The ability to work in close proximity to inmates is required.
• The maintenance person must effectively diagnose maintenance issues and consider the appropriate course of action or alternative courses of action if applicable.
• The maintenance person must work well under pressure, have the ability to adapt to changing conditions and circumstances, and demonstrate a high level of initiative.
• The maintenance person must maintain an appropriate awareness of cost control and proper utilization of resources.
• The ability to effectively prioritize tasks and make sound decisions.

Qualification Requirements:

• The maintenance person must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
• Prior experience in a trade of skilled labor position is beneficial.
• Experience and knowledge of corrections and institutional operations is preferred.
• Ability to operate a variety of heavy equipment (snow plows, dump truck, tractor).
• A valid driver's license is required.
• A criminal history check will be completed.

Heavy lifting and strenuous labor is very common to assigned tasks. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth perception.
