Job Description

The Medical Device Service Technician diagnoses, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains medical monitors, IV pumps, and FMD devices to ensure reliable operation for customers. Working in a controlled laboratory setting, the technician performs component-level repairs, approved testing, preventive maintenance, and device upgrades. This role requires strong electronics knowledge, proficiency with test equipment and soldering, attention to detail, and effective customer communication.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair customer-returned RMA units down to the component level.

• Perform printed circuit board assembly (PCBA), unit, and top-level testing according to approved test procedures.

• Record and maintain required manufacturing device documentation.

• Upgrade customer repair units to current revision levels as needed.

• Perform preventive maintenance and revision-level upgrades on loaner units.

• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality Control to resolve customer-related issues promptly.

• Provide technical assistance to customers by phone and email, including troubleshooting device problems and answering operational questions.

• Maintain test equipment and a clean, organized work area.

• Enter an MRI Zone IV environment when needed to perform observation, equipment training, troubleshooting, and other job activities.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in Electronics Technology or equivalent experience.

• Two to three years of experience in electronics servicing, assembly, or testing.

• Ability to interpret electronic schematics and diagnose electromechanical assemblies.

• Technical knowledge of electronics, mechanics, and computer systems used in medical equipment diagnosis and repair.

• Ability to identify electronic components and verify correct placement.

• Proficiency with fluid flow meters, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters (DMMs), and patient simulators.

• Proficiency in soldering techniques used for assembly and repair.

• Knowledge and application of electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions.

• Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues under pressure while minimizing disruption to healthcare services.

• Attention to detail when performing calibration, maintenance, testing, and documentation.

• Effective communication with customers, healthcare professionals, and team members.

• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently.

• Commitment to safety protocols and procedures related to medical device maintenance.

• Flexibility to work evening hours as required.

• Availability for approximately 10%–15% travel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) certification.

• J-STD-001 certification for electrical and electronic assemblies.

• Knowledge of relevant medical device regulations and standards, including FDA regulations and ISO standards.
