Environmental Geologist

Environmental Professional OpportunityTetra Tech is currently seeking an entry-level environmental professional to work on various projects managed out of our Pasadena, Irvine, and San Bernardino offices. The position will provide field support for our environmental characterization and remediation consulting services for our clients and projects throughout Southern California. The projects include small and large remedial investigations primarily focused on the characterization of soil and groundwater impacts resulting from past operations and waste disposal practices. In addition to implementing the fieldwork for Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments and remediation, the position will also involve data entry, interpretation, and technical report writing for various groundwater monitoring programs for private, local government, and Department of Defense (DoD) clients. Discover your full potential – join us to advance your career while leaving a lasting legacy.Essential Job Functions:Primary responsibility will be supporting field investigations including but not limited to soil sampling, groundwater sampling, borehole drilling, and well installations.Fieldwork will include on-site training and oversight by staff working either on a team or independently depending on the complexity of the task.Preparation of Phase I ESA reports, work plans, sampling and analysis plans, remedial investigation reports, groundwater monitoring plans, and groundwater monitoring reports.Assisting in the preparation of all plans and reports will be under the direction and guidance of a Staff-Level or Senior Geologist/Engineer/Scientist.Performs a range of tasks, requiring utilization of critical-thinking skills, scientific, geologic, and engineering analytical techniquesManage and oversee subcontractors as needed.Local travel and field work required.Required Qualifications:Bachelor of Science (BS) or Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Geology.Entry – no experience up to 3 years post degree.Proficiency in technical writing and verbal communication skills.Proficient in MS Office applications (e.g., Excel, Word)Experience with geologic, engineering, scientific or general environmental projects and data interpretation.The selected candidate must be able to resolve conflicts with co-workers, subcontractors, and project managers and provide solutions in a professional manner.Must be able to pass a physical exam by a physician to qualify to wear an air purifying respirator in compliance with 29 CFR 1910.134 and comply with respiratory protection programs and to pass a physical exam by a physician to perform hazardous waste site operations in compliance with medical monitoring sections of 29 CFR 1910.120.A Pre-employment drug screen in compliance with state regulations is required.Must possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record without restrictions.Preferred Qualifications:Proficiency in MS Project for budget and task management.Experience with GIS and other environmental software packages.Physical Requirements:Must be able to traverse terrain carrying a 50lb pack, over uneven ground, in all weather conditions ( 95 degrees).Ability to travel to various industrial, commercial, and manufacturing facilities (up to 50% of field work/travel required).Field tasks will include work to be performed outside, and as a result will include working in various environmental factors (weather, noise levels, hazardous chemicals, altitude, terrain, etc.). This can include remaining stationary for long periods of time, walking at least one mile, lifting, bending, climbing stairs and ladders, and traversing uneven terrain.Office-based tasks will include frequent periods of time sitting or standing at a desk and using a computer and other office equipment.Work Environment / Environmental Factors:Periods of office work involving data entry, report preparation, documentation, and communication with project managers, contractors, and clients.Working in remote areas with limited supervision.Hot and dry weather conditions.Based out one of our local offices (San Bernadino, Irvine and Pasadena, CA) with potential of a hybrid work arrangement, but the candidate must reside within 50 miles of one of the local offices and/or have the ability to reach a major airport within an hour. This arrangement is subject to review and may change at the company's discretion.Additional Information:Part-time temporary position, no scheduled hours. Hours will vary based on project/client needs.Target salary range: $27.00/ hour to $30.00/ hour.
