Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Kernersville Veterinary Hospital is mostly a walk‑in clinic, so students will get to experience a variety of cases. It provides urgent care and wellness appointments, giving veterinary students exposure to many different experiences. Students will work closely with the supervising veterinarian to gain experience in the following core clinical skills: Gathering patient histories Performing physical exams Creation of treatment plans Diagnostics Dental services Observing, assisting, or performing surgical procedures Medical management of patients Additionally, student externs will practice communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Most externship experiences range from two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate in NVA externships.
