Summary The Veterinary Technician II under the supervision of the Attending Veterinarian supports the highest standards of animal health and welfare according to standards set forth by the Guide for the Care & Use of Laboratory Animals (the Guide), provides non‑surgical technical assistance to researchers and provides routine animal medical care and supports basic technical services. Ideal Candidate Experience working in a fast‑paced emergency or referral veterinary practice, or a veterinary teaching hospital. Proficiency in anesthesia monitoring and the application of anesthesia protocols. Familiarity with IACUC protocols to assure investigator adherence to approved protocols and provide necessary documentation to IACUC. Familiarity with rodent breeding colony production techniques and maintenance (preferred). Surgical experience, including survival surgeries and maintaining a survival surgery suite (preferred). Responsibilities Collect, analyze, and process samples for research, diagnostic, and clinical purposes. Perform technical procedures for researchers. Coordinate scheduling of technical procedures with research staff, maintain records, document procedures, and log time for charge‑backs as needed. Maintain rodent colonies, including breeding colonies, and assist with rodent health surveillance program. Perform drug dose calculations for preparation and administration of pharmaceuticals. Prepare animals for surgery. Credentials and Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an AVMA program, two years of veterinary technician experience inclusive of one year working in a research facility. In lieu of a bachelor's degree, an associate’s degree (AVMA program) and six years of veterinary technician experience inclusive of one year working in a research facility may be considered. Current license, registration, or certification as a veterinary technician; documentation of completed VTNE required upon hire. AALAS Laboratory Animal Technologist certification preferred.
