Key Responsibilities

• Provide intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, operating invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation
• Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal), oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, and routine review of patient chest x-rays
• Perform arterial punctures, 12-Lead EKGs, basic arrhythmia recognition, tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes, and insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes via free hand technique and/or video laryngoscope
• Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines
• Set up, self-test, operate, maintain, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair as needed
• Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges; communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians and participate in shift-to-shift handoff communication

Required Qualifications

• Active Respiratory Therapist license within applicable state scope of practice
• Current BLS and ACLS certification
• Demonstrated ability to operate invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment and related respiratory care devices
• Proficiency in performing arterial punctures, pulmonary function studies, and endotracheal intubation
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and evaluate patients to recommend appropriate treatment plans

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in moderate complexity laboratory testing including specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation
• Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage procedures
• Experience with video laryngoscope systems for endotracheal intubation
