About the Position

Job Title: Clinical Nurse Profession: RN Specialty: Intensive Care Unit Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: One (1) year of nursing experience required License: Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification (AHA or ARC) required Must-Have: Nursing Diploma or ADN/ASN from an accredited school of Nursing Description: Provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reports to the Nurse Manager/Director. Responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting. Participates in identifying and meeting learning needs for self. Attends education programs based on identified learning needs. Uses patient education materials relevant to patient population, with assistance. Assesses readiness to learn of the patient, family, and caregivers. Evaluates developmental levels of patients and factors affecting their ability to learn. Identifies expected patient outcomes. Seeks guidance as needed in revising the plan of care. Participates in discussions with members of the interdisciplinary team in evaluating patient care. Communicates relevant information to promote continuity of care. Demonstrates competence in the care of patients with complex problems, including physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care appropriate to the population served. Performs bedside point of care testing as required for patient care plans. Utilizes nursing standards, policies, and procedures in the delivery of care. Organizes and prioritizes care according to patient and family needs. Consults with appropriate resources in a timely manner regarding patients with complex care issues and unusual teaching needs. Develops goals to promote professional growth or minimize limitations, with assistance. Achieves goals and objectives within identified time frames or renegotiates with supervisor as necessary. Contributes to the development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement activities. Effectively uses communication systems. Participates in promoting cost-effective care. Provides feedback to co-workers. Maintains awareness of public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting the healthcare environment. Promotes a safe, clean, and secure hospital environment for all. Recognizes data from complex situations to determine priorities for care. Synthesizes assessment data into meaningful information prior to communicating with others. Assesses and anticipates discharge needs of individual patients and families. Develops relationships with families that empower them to advocate for their needs. Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update the plan of care. Makes use of multidisciplinary resources in planning care. Uses a full range of communication methods to convey planning. Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic issues in planning patient care. Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex problems. Reads journals that contain studies or articles applicable to practice. Brings ideas and questions to the staff for assessment of applicability.
