About PATH Since its foundation in 1984, PATH (People Assisting The Homeless) has pioneered bold and effective approaches to assist people experiencing homelessness. PATH operates services throughout California, connecting clients to a comprehensive continuum of homelessness prevention, street outreach, employment preparation and placement assistance, individualized case management, supportive services, interim housing, and permanent supportive housing. About the Chief Development Officer As part of the Executive Leadership Team, the CDO is responsible for achieving PATH’s progressive fundraising goals, managing a robust team of 15 members with five direct reports, and serving as an engaging, mission-driven thought leader with the executive team. Position Responsibilities Lead the creation of a comprehensive, statewide fundraising strategy—from initial engagement to donor acknowledgment and stewardship—that achieves PATH’s current goals and increases private revenue incrementally and aggressively each year. Develop a high-performance team culture focused on leadership and accountability at all levels, continuous learning, collaboration, measurement, and goal achievement, with progress tracked quarterly and annually. Oversee directors of philanthropy, grants, media, and marketing to help develop annual plans and budgets and support implementation. Support internal and external communications with the team, leading to broader brand awareness externally and more streamlined messaging internally. Personally secure six- to seven-figure gifts from major donors across California while overseeing the success of a team fully dedicated to individual giving, direct mail, online giving, corporate sponsorships, and event production. Leverage previous experience in planned giving to expand our current program, with full support and participation from staff and board leadership. What You Bring Analytical Skills and Attention to Detail: Gather and interpret data, identifying trends, patterns, and insights to inform decision-making. Produce high-quality, accurate work consistently. Collaboration and Teamwork: Build positive working relationships with colleagues, participants, and stakeholders; contribute to team goals and recognize the strengths of others. Creativity and Initiative: Take action and make decisions without prompting, demonstrating a proactive approach and willingness to take on additional responsibilities. Generate innovative solutions to problems or challenges. Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Analyze and evaluate information and situations, identify key issues, consider alternatives, and make logical decisions based on sound reasoning that achieve desired outcomes. Ethics and Boundaries: Maintain ethical and professional standards, demonstrating honesty, integrity, and a commitment to doing the right thing while preserving professional boundaries. Employment Eligibility Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa. PATH is committed to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and objectivity. To avoid conflicts of interest, we do not employ individuals who are currently receiving services from PATH or have received services within the past two years. California-Based Work Expectations As a California employer, all regular and customary work must be performed within the state. Approval for work outside the office does not authorize work outside California. PATH does not offer fully remote positions. Some roles may include a schedule that involves multiple designated work sites or approved off-site locations; however, work will not be performed from home. All work schedules may be adjusted at any time based on responsibilities and operational requirements. What We Offer A rewarding work environment with a competitive benefits package that includes medical, dental and vision coverage, vacation and sick time, paid holidays, and a retirement plan. Ready to Make a Difference? If this position sounds like a fit, please submit your application today. A resume is required. Equal Employment Opportunity Statement PATH provides equal employment opportunities (EEO) to all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability or genetics. In addition to federal law requirements, PATH complies with applicable state and local laws governing nondiscrimination in employment in every location where it has facilities. PATH will consider for employment all qualified applicants, including those with criminal histories, in a manner consistent with applicable state and local laws, including the City of Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance. PATH is dedicated to racial and social justice by centering equity in service delivery and maintaining a diverse and inclusive work environment.
