Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team. This role involves caring for patients recovering from anesthesia, ensuring their safety and comfort during the recovery process.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality patient care in both Phase 1 and Phase 2 recovery areas.
• Monitor vital signs and assess patients for complications during recovery.
• Administer medications and manage pain levels as required.
• Educate patients and families on post-operative care and recovery processes.
• Collaborate with anesthesia and surgical teams to ensure effective recovery protocols.
• Maintain familiarity with EMR systems, specifically Cerner-Surginet, for accurate patient documentation.
• Participate in unit orientation to familiarize with protocols, procedures, and charting systems.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a recovery or intensive care setting.
• Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and PALS. CPAN or CCRN preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips, as well as manage basic vent settings and ICP monitors.
• Experience with patient care involving a diverse range of surgical procedures, particularly orthopedic and robotic surgeries.

Unit Information

• Unit Type: PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) - 15 cubicles available.
• Patient Ratios: 2:1.
• Nurse Aides (PCA) are available for support, including tasks like drawing blood and performing EKGs.
• Anesthesia coverage and intensivist services are available 24/7.

Schedule and Call Requirements

• Shifts: 12-hour day shifts with start times ranging from 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM.
• Weekend and holiday requirements are based on rotational call schedules.
• Call schedule typically includes two weekdays and one weekend day or night on a rotational basis.

Additional Information

• No floating is required, but understanding Phase 2 recovery and discharge processes is necessary.
• Orientation includes training on clinical protocols and care processes for critical patients.
• Common surgical cases include total joint replacements, hysterectomies, and other orthopedic surgeries, with no open-heart recovery.
