CNC Mill Machinist (3 & 4 Axis) – Day Shift Position Overview

We’re hiring a skilled CNC Mill Machinist to join our growing machine shop team. In this role, you’ll set up and run 3-axis vertical and 4-axis horizontal mills to produce high-quality, precision parts.

This is a great opportunity for a machinist who enjoys hands-on work, problem-solving, and variety in a collaborative shop environment.

• Set up and operate CNC milling machines (3-axis vertical & 4-axis horizontal)
• Machine precision parts directly from blueprints and drawings
• Perform full CNC setups (work offsets, tool offsets, program verification)
• Use edge finders and indicators for accurate setups
• Build and set up your own tooling (drills, taps, end mills, etc.)
• Run manual equipment when needed (Bridgeport, lathe, grinder, drill press)
• Select proper tooling and adjust feeds/speeds for materials
• Inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and precision tools
• Apply GD&T principles to hold tight tolerances
• Support general shop needs, including occasional assembly work
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment

• Experience setting up and operating CNC milling machines
• Strong setup skills on vertical and/or horizontal mills
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and GD&T
• Experience with tooling selection and setup
• Proficient with inspection tools (calipers, micrometers, gauges)
• Familiarity with Fanuc controls
• Ability to hold tight tolerances with high attention to detail
• Comfortable with both CNC and manual machining
• Self-motivated and able to work independently

• Experience with 4-axis horizontal CNC mills
• Strong working knowledge of GD&T
• Ability to plan machining operations from a print
• Troubleshooting and problem-solving experience
• Forklift or shop equipment experience (a plus)

  • Manual mills, lathes, grinders, and drill presses
• Work with aluminum through mild steel materials

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rockford, IL.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $26.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Rockford,IL.
