UTHealth Houston Neurosciences is hiring for a Medical Assistant II/III to join our outpatient neurology team in Katy. The Medical Assistant II/III will support a neurologist in a busy outpatient clinic setting and will play an important role in ensuring patients receive timely, coordinated, and patient-centered care. This position is ideal for a Medical Assistant who enjoys working closely with patients, providers, and the broader care team to support clinic flow and improve the patient experience. Responsibilities include preparing patients for clinic visits, obtaining and documenting vital signs and medical histories, assisting with patient intake, supporting provider workflow, and ensuring exam rooms are prepared for patient care. The Medical Assistant will also assist with coordinating referrals, obtaining outside records, communicating with external entities, scheduling appointments, answering patient inquiries, and helping patients navigate next steps in their care plan. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, professionalism, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, compassionate, and comfortable working as part of a team. Epic experience is preferred but not required. Prior experience in an outpatient clinical setting is a plus. Neurology experience is helpful but not required. Location: 23960 Katy Freeway, Katy, TX 77494 Once you join us you won't want to leave. 2. Effectively participates in planning and preparing for patient visits ensuring appropriate schedules, test results, and clinic specific requirements are available.
3. Rooms patients consistent with clinic needs while determining and documenting chief complaint and reason for visit, vital signs, medication list, allergies, smoking history and other information as required by clinic. Keeps patients informed of delays and progress of clinical appointments.
4. As required and competency validated, performs appropriate hearing and vision testing, EKG, spirometry, point of care testing, specimen collection, equipment cleaning/reprocessing and other requested procedures.
5. Prepares and stocks rooms (daily/weekly) and clinic supplies in advance of clinic visit as well as cleaning rooms appropriately between patients.
6. Prepares for and assists with routine and specialty procedures.
7. Schedules patients for follow up appointments or referrals and performs routine clerical duties for team and staff to include photocopying, scanning and faxing.
8. Performs telephone messaging and in person screening with appropriate follow up.
9. Responds to emergency situations.
10. Respects and maintains privacy and confidentiality per HIPAA guidelines.
11. Performs other duties as assigned. Certification/Skills:
Minimum Education: High school diploma or equivalent
Completion of an approved Medical Assistant training program OR one (1) year of experience (in addition to the one year of experience required to meet the experience requirement) AND certification may be substituted for Medical Assistant training program. Minimum Experience: One year of related experience Physical Requirements: Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. - Basic Life Support (BLS) by American Heart Association (AHA) required
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) required or
- Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by American Medical Technologist (AMT) required or
- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by National Healthcareer Association (NHA) required or
- National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by National Center for Competency Testing required
