Summary This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval — award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants may be ineligible to apply. Qualifications Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy English Language Proficiency Requirement — Per VA Handbook 5005 — Part II — Chapter 3 — Section A — Paragraph 3j: No person will be appointed under authority of 38 U.S.C. - chapter 73 or 74 - to serve in a direct patient-care capacity in VHA who is not proficient in written and spoken English Education Requirement — You must have a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) or the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS) or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed OR - Doctoral degree in any area of psychology with a re-specialization program meeting both conditions: a) completed in an APA or CPA accredited doctoral program; b) the specialty retrained is consistent with the assignment OR - Doctoral degree awarded between 1951 and 1978 from a regionally-accredited institution with a dissertation primarily psychological in nature Internship Requirement — You must have completed an APA- or CPA-accredited internship or an approved equivalent as described by VA policy Licensure: Candidates must hold a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in the United States or D.C. Experience: In addition to the basic requirements, you must have GS-12 level experience (at least one year as a professional psychologist at GS-11 or equivalent) Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) as described in the job qualification standards Ability to conduct professional psychological treatments and assessments and to provide professional advice and consultation in areas related to psychology Research and clinical practice experience post-doctoral or equivalent Reference: Psychologist Qualification Standard Physical requirements: Light lifting and carrying (under 15 lbs), straight pulling, walking, standing; vision and hearing requirements Duties Major duties include: conduct assessment interviews, compose psychosocial assessment reports, formulate diagnostic impressions, develop treatment plans, provide psychotherapy to patients (individual and group), make referrals for aftercare, and document services and treatment courses Describe human behavior, determine reasons, and predict/modify behavior Administer, score, and interpret psychodiagnostic tests and related assessments Prepare reports summarizing testing results; assess intelligence, behavior, and personality variables Assist in differential diagnosis and provide expert consultation on test administration/evaluation Supervise others in the use of psychological tests and contribute to a therapeutic environment Plan and conduct psychotherapy and related services for a diverse patient population Coordinate with multidisciplinary team and participate in planning committees to evaluate and modify treatment programs Provide supervision to psychology trainees or interns as assigned Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00am-4:30pm (not virtual) Seniority level Mid-Senior level Employment type Full-time Job function Health Care Provider Industries Government Administration Refer to VA postings for additional context.
