SCHOOL NURSE

School Nurse

Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible

Location: Affton High School (9-12)

Details: 10-month support staff position, with district-recognized holidays and paid sick and personal leave. Leave time will be prorated based on start date. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position, with a district provided benefits package that includes employee health, dental, life and vision insurance.

Compensation: According to the 2026-27 Support Staff Pay Schedule, placement within the range is based on education and like experience. The minimum starting hourly rate for this position is $31.09.

The district provides an additional $2,000 annual stipend to those who obtain a (NCSN) certification through the National Board for Certification of School Nurses and keeps this certification active.

Job Summary: Support the physical, mental, emotional and social health of students and their success in the learning process; support student success by providing health care assessments, identifying problems, planning, intervention, follow-up and health evaluations for all students within the school setting.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma and minimum of two year associate degree are required, BSN preferred
• RN license is required
• A minimum of two years of nursing experience is required
• Prior school nursing experience, or experience working with school-age children is preferred
• The knowledge of working with children with disabilities is preferred
• Current CPR, First Aid, and AEDS (defibrillation equipment) training are required
• The ability to teach classes in CPR, First Aid, and AEDS (defibrillation equipment) is required
• The ability to maintain confidential information is required
• Excellent communication skills (verbal & written) and ability to work from written or oral instructions under limited supervision are required
• Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and self-motivation are required
• The ability to effectively prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines is required
• The ability to write routine reports and correspondence is required
• Experience with Microsoft Office Suite is required, experience with Google Applications is preferred
• Strong word processing, data entry, spreadsheet and database skills are required, experience with student data management databases (SIS, PowerSchool, etc.) is preferred
• The ability to present information and respond to questions from parents and school staff in a positive, professional manner is required
• The ability to communicate effectively with students in redirecting and using positive reinforcement is required
• The ability to solve problems and respond to situations in a calm, caring manner is required
• The ability to work independently, use good judgment, and think quickly and rationally in difficult or stressful situations is required
• The ability to work with a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural population is required
• The ability to remain flexible & positive with the demands of the job without losing sight of the mission, task, or assignment is required
• The willingness to learn new material and, as needed, attend professional development is required
• The ability to work as a team player, communicate and collaborate with building and district staff is required
