Forklift Operator and Material Handler

This role supports the shipping department by safely operating forklifts, accurately picking and preparing orders, and maintaining precise inventory records on 1st shift in a manufacturing environment in northern Indianapolis.

Shift + Pay

• 1st shift: Monday-Friday: 6AM to 2:30PM (overtime will be 6AM to 4:30PM)
• Starting at $20hr with room for growth

Responsibilities

• Manually pick orders accurately based on pick tickets and ensure all items match customer requirements.
• Regularly use an RF scanner to track, locate, and update inventory movements within the facility.
• Operate sit-down and stand-up forklifts to safely stage products, move materials, and pick pallets for shipment.
• Use a wrapping machine to securely wrap pallets and prepare shipments for transport.
• Perform quality inspections on final shipments to verify accuracy, completeness, and proper labeling before release.
• Use Microsoft applications on the computer to enter data, review shipping information, and maintain basic documentation.
• Support shipping and receiving activities, including handling bills of lading (BOL) and related paperwork as needed.
• Assist with material handling tasks such as order pulling, staging, and organizing product in designated areas.
• Conduct or assist with cycle counts to help maintain accurate inventory levels.
• Follow all safety procedures and equipment guidelines while operating forklifts and handling materials.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience operating sit-down and/or stand-up forklifts in a warehouse or manufacturing environment.
• Hands-on experience using RF scanners for inventory tracking and order picking.
• In material handling, including order pulling and staging product for shipment.
• Experience working in shipping and receiving operations.
• Ability to read and follow pick tickets and other shipping documentation accurately.
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft applications for data entry and documentation.
• Familiarity with bills of lading (BOL) and standard shipping documentation.
• Ability to perform cycle counts and support inventory accuracy.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in order fulfillment and shipment quality.
• Capability to work safely around material handling equipment and follow established safety procedures.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience as a forklift operator in a manufacturing or distribution setting.
• Experience using wrapping machines or similar packaging equipment.
• Exposure to order picker equipment or similar material handling tools.
• Comfort working with technology such as RF scanners and computer-based inventory systems.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple orders and tasks during the shift.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Westfield, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
