Special Education Paraprofessional

JOB TITLE: Special Education Paraprofessional - Lincoln Montessori

REQUIREMENTS:

• High school diploma
• Some college and/or experience
• Bilingual skills in Spanish/English preferred, but not required
• First aid/CPR certificate preferred, but not required

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Classroom Teacher; Building Principal


EVALUATION: Evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the district's Personnel Evaluation Policy

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 months; 30 hours/week

JOB GOAL: To assist the teacher in providing education and instruction to the student.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Consistent and punctual "on-site" attendance at the worksite is an essential job function
• Uses positive forms of communication with children in the classroom/building
• Demonstrates confidentiality
• Maintain attendance records
• Performs various clerical duties (i.e. typing, drawing, writing, preparing bulletin boards, graphs, charts, correct papers, etc.)
• Research, assemble, and organize materials to be used during instruction
• Helps in the care of the classroom (i.e. sanitizing classroom toys)
• Assist with classroom inventory of supplies and materials
• Supervise small/large groups of students as directed by supervisor/teacher (i.e. lunchroom, playground, other assignments/areas)
• Alerts teacher to the needs of students
• Assists with the physical and/or emotional health needs of students
• Reinforce any skill(s) taught by teacher
• Assist students with reading, make-up work, group activities, etc.
• Assists students in the classroom by providing additional support
• Flexibility in working with students within the regular classroom
• Works cooperatively with classroom and special education teaching team
• Other duties as assigned
