Shift details: Per Diem, 7:00am to 3:30pm

Electroencephalograph Technicians operate electronic equipment which graphically records electrical impulses generated in the brain to obtain data for evaluation of certain brain disorders.

Responsibilities include:

• Performing EEGs on in/out patients according to the American Electroencephalographic Society's Guidelines in EEG/Minimum Technical Standards for: - Performing Clinical EEG, - Pediatric EEG - EEG Recording of Suspected Cerebral Death.
• Performing EEG in monitoring of surgical procedures and direct electroencephalography during epilepsy surgery.
• Obtaining tracings from chronically implanted electrodes.
• Summarizing the patient's neurologic status and clinical history from the chart, patient, or other knowledgeable persons.
• Explaining the recording procedure, using a style appropriate to the age and needs of the patient and family.
• Adapting methods and instrumentation to obtain optimal results based on age groups, patient specific needs, hx, etc.
• Providing appropriate patient care for age groups served and detailed observations of clinical manifestations during seizures and other patient emergency situations.
• Keeping room and equipment in clean operating condition.
• Performing maintenance and minor repair of laboratory equipment and reporting the need for major repairs.
• Preparing EEG tracings with complete information about montages, filters, sensitivity, etc. and paperwork for interpretation by physicians.
• Processing paperwork and computer functions to facilitate recordkeeping and billing.
• Ordering and distributing laboratory supplies.
• Retrieving previous EEG tracings and/or reports for reference.
• Scheduling in/outpatients when necessary.
• Preparing equipment for sterilization.
• Assisting supervisor in the technical training of students in affiliated EEG technology programs, residents and visiting personnel as needed.
• Accepting "on-call" duties when assigned.
• Participating in professional association activities, meetings, seminars and in-services, keeping abreast of new developments in EEG technology.
• Performing other related work as required to assure efficiency of the Department.
• Assisting with fielding phones, filing and other front office functions as needed.

• Performing all other related job duties as assigned.

Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.

High School diploma is required.

Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment. Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications. Must meet and maintain current all unit specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by the nursing area.

American Heart Association and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers may be required at the unit level upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment.

AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) with 6 months validity

Physical Requirements - Job function requires extended standing or walking. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds. Able to lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices. Jobs in this group require frequent visual acuity to perform activities related to extended use of computers. Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when exposed to infectious/clinical hospital environment.
