Job Title: Surgical Room Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Nursing Administration Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 8 Hours Experience: 2-3 years of acute care experience (3 years of hybrid experience required for Hybrid IR Tech) License: Required License Certifications: BLS, ACLS Must-Have: - Critical care experience preferred. - EPIC experience required. Description: About the Facility: This is a Level I Trauma Center with Magnet designation. It operates as a comprehensive stroke center with a total of 794 beds. Unit Information: The unit consists of 28 beds, including 2 hybrid rooms for cardiovascular and vascular cases. There is an average of 60-75 cases per day. Patient Types/Common Diagnoses: Patients seen include outpatient and inpatient cases, as well as trauma. Common cases involve gunshot wounds, stabbings, transplant surgeries (kidney and heart), donor cases, general surgeries, gynecological procedures, urology, robotic surgeries, vascular surgeries, orthopedic cases, neurological cases, and open heart surgeries (CABG). The hybrid room handles between 5-10 cases daily, based on scheduled procedures. The patient demographic consists mainly of adults, with 20% pediatric cases including open hearts, appendectomies, and cholecystectomies. Required Qualifications: Registered nurses must be able to scrub and circulate, with trauma experience preferred. Surgical techs must be able to scrub applicable cases. Hybrid IR techs need experience with assigned hybrid patient types and proficiency with Siemens equipment. Support within the Department: The charge nurse has no patient assignments during weekdays but can assist on weekends and evenings. Other support includes anesthesiologists, resource nurses, surgeons, educators, service line representatives, and EPIC super-users. Technology/Equipment: The electronic medical record system used is EPIC. Medication dispensing is managed through Pyxis. Orientation: Initial orientation includes meeting educators and obtaining system access, followed by unit orientation. Scheduling: Weekend rotation is every 4th weekend. Shifts may vary, including 3x12 hours or 5x8 hours. The operation runs 24/7 with a skeleton crew for trauma cases after regular hours. All requests for time off should be communicated via email. Holiday Requirements: Holiday coverage is required. On-Call: On-call status is dependent on shifts and service lines, with a 30-minute response time required. A sleeping room is available for on-call staff. Other Notes: Scrub color will be provided.
