Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)Qualifications:Certification in Florida as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN); or, a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirementsState of Florida Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) LicenseMust possess a Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification at the time of employmentCorrectional nursing experienceFederal, state, correctional health care standards, institutional policies and regulations and accreditation and certification requirementsPositions in the class typically require: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, talking, hearing, seeing, finger and hand dexterity as well as repetitive motionsIncumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, blood and other bodily fluids, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, intense noises and travelResponsibilities:Participates in the screening, evaluation, and care of inmates in a variety of settings which includes sick call, mental health care, chronic illness clinics, the infirmary, and confinement while under the supervision of a physician and/or registered nurseProvides treatment and medication administration as per physician and mid-level practitioner ordersPerforms specific nursing tasks including vital signs, venipuncture, and IV therapy (must have phlebotomy and IV certifications)Provides appropriate nursing interventions in emergency situationResponsible for complete and accurate documentation of care provided in the inmate's health recordMaintains health services records logs and assists with data entry within the scope of nursing related itemsMaintains accountability of all controlled substances and prescription medications according to federal and state laws and organizational regulationsParticipates in the monitoring, requisition, and documentation of the use of medical supplies and equipmentProvides supervision for non-licensed health care staffParticipates in inmate educational health programsCoordinates with medical, dental, mental health, and ancillary personnel, as required, to ensure continuity of careParticipates in continuing education and in-service training to maintain professional capabilities and proficiencyAssists in the training and orientation of new employeesOther related duties as assignedAll qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
