This role monitors carrier and product developments across the life and LTC marketplace, compiles and interprets industry data, and applies competitive knowledge to real business situations.This associate serves as a trusted resource for sales, product, and leadership teams by helping them understand competitor positioning, market shifts, and Nationwide’s relative strengths and opportunities. The role requires strong industry knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to translate complex information into practical recommendations, competitive case support, and compelling market stories for a range of audiences.Core Responsibilities:Monitor life and long-term care competitor products, carriers, product changes, underwriting practices, pricing trends, distribution developments, and broader industry activity.Represent Nationwide to other carrier partners through broader industry organizations.Develops market trend reports and industry data summaries tailored to varied audiences, using the appropriate level of detail and format, including presentations, newsletters, and quick-turn business updates.Compile, organize, validate, and analyze competitive and industry data from internal and external sources to support business decisions.Develop clear points of view on Nationwide’s market position, including where we lead, where we are competitive, and where gaps or risks may exist.Support sales and distribution partners with timely, relevant, and practical competitive intelligence that can be used in the field.Prepare and deliver presentations to leadership on industry trends, competitor moves, emerging risks, and implications for Nationwide.Build and maintain competitive intelligence resources, competitor profiles, market summaries, and recurring reporting that improve access to actionable insights.Partner closely with product, sales, advanced consulting, strategy, and other internal stakeholders to align intelligence with business priorities.Respond to ad hoc requests with thoughtful analysis, clear recommendations, and an appropriate sense of urgency.Serve as a knowledgeable voice on the life and LTC competitive landscape and represent the function with credibility across business discussions.Example Outputs from the roleIn addition to the responsibilities described in the accompanying job description, the position will be responsible for and possess attributes such as:Competitive case guidance for sales partnersLeadership presentations on industry changes and competitor activityCompetitor product summaries and carrier profilesMarket trend reporting and industry data compilationsPositioning insights that clarify Nationwide’s strengths, vulnerabilities, and opportunitiesTalking points and executive summaries on key market developmentsSuccess ProfileThe successful candidate will be:Sales-minded and market-aware, with a strong understanding of how competitive intelligence supports field effectiveness and business growth.Curious, analytical, and proactive in identifying relevant market changes before they become business issues.Comfortable working through ambiguity and forming clear perspectives from incomplete or evolving information.Credible with leadership and business partners, with the ability to influence through insight and communication rather than authority.Skilled at simplifying complex product and market information into practical, usable guidance.Collaborative and responsive, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.This role will be required to work a hybrid in-office schedule out of our Columbus, OH location (3 days per week).This is a G3 band role.#LI-COLEJob Description SummaryAre you a data driven problem solver, focused squarely on attaining business goals? You'll partner with enterprise resources to acquire market, industry and consumer insights relative to business unit.Job DescriptionKey Responsibilities:Retrieves and manipulates data, accountable for suitability and accuracy of data.Updates Competitive Intelligence and serves as subject matter authority for tools and reports; may be responsible for updating and validating complex coding in various applications and/or vendor software.Conducts analyses by selecting appropriate data sources and methods, makes assumptions, recognizes considerations and develops recommendations. May be asked to investigate hypotheses through additional research and analysis. Notes unreasonable results/non-optimal solutions, investigates, suggests alternative resolutions.Works on special assignments. May work on projects with little-to-no direction and develop project plans, requirements, timelines, deliverables, etc. May collaborate or lead competitive intelligence project teams.Communicates effectively with internal and external business partners in a variety of mediums. Expresses analytical findings and trains users on tools and processes.Uses relationships with business partners to complete assignments. Makes presentations to corporate and executive audiences.Participates in peer reviews. Reviews work of peers and has work reviewed by them. May assist with training new associates and business partners outside the unit on standard work procedures and processes. May participate in interview activities. Participates in ad hoc analyses. May perform other responsibilities as assigned.Reporting Relationships: Reports to Manager/Director; this is an individual contributor role.Typical Skills and Experiences:Education: Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, computer science, business, finance, mathematics, statistics, economics, management information systems or related field with a strong quantitative orientation preferred. License/Certification/Designation: SAS certification a plus. Insurance licenses or designations such as CPCU, ARM, CLU, ChFC, FLMI, CFP, NASD, etc. also are a plus.Experience: Typically, eight to ten years demonstrated of experience in a business unit (e.g., pricing, actuarial, product) or combined experience and educational equivalent. Programming and/or web development experience desired.Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Strong knowledge of mathematics, statistics and/or probability principles. Proven analytical skills and knowledge of products and terminology, as well as competitive landscape in area of assignment. Demonstrated work product accuracy and timeliness. Effective verbal/written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to comprehend and analyze competitive intelligence data, think logically and make observations or recommendations to business partners based on data. Ability to use database software, which may include SAS, SQL or other applications.
