Certified Medical Assistant - UNR Primary Care-Plumas

Job Purpose The Certified Medical Assistant is accountable for assisting providers with front‑ and back‑office procedures, serving as a direct liaison between provider and patient, and ensuring all patient concerns are addressed. The role may float to various sites within the health system. Scope and Responsibilities Assist the provider in back‑office duties, including but not limited to escorting patients to the examination room, taking vital signs, maintaining room stock, documenting patient communications, preparing lab specimens, completing referral forms, scheduling tests, and handling phone calls. Administer treatments and medications per provider order in accordance with established policies. Track and coordinate patient test results, remind patients of overdue health‑maintenance topics, and assist other members of the Medical Home Care Team in delivering optimal patient‑centered care. Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and third‑party reimbursement requirements. Provide cast, splint, and brace care for the following departments: 530244, 515284, and 515322. Responsibilities include applying appropriate casts/splints, fitting casts and braces, trimming or removing casts, adjusting braces, performing documentation, instructing patients on care, fitting crutches and other mobilization aids, preparing exams rooms, stocking specialty items, maintaining tools, setting up fluoroscopy machines, and coordinating with vendors for orders. Assist physicians in the operating room, inpatient units, and emergency room by applying casts, splints, and braces, modifying as needed, and instructing patients on cast care and brace/splint application. Qualifications Education: Must have working‑level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking. Experience: Multi‑physician office practice experience highly preferred. Licensure: Current State of Nevada license for Office Laboratory Assistant or Certified Laboratory Assistant, or application submitted within 90 days of employment (specified exclusions noted). Certification: Current AHA BLS required within 90 days. Additional certifications may be required at time of hire, including but not limited to: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – NHA Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) – AMCA Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – AAMA National Certified Medical Assistant – NCCT Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant – NAHP Registered Medical Assistant – AMT or AAH National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians – NREMT State of Nevada EMT certification (basic, advanced, paramedic) Computer/Typing: Must possess or obtain within 90 days the computer skills necessary to complete online learning requirements, access online forms and policies, and complete online benefits enrollment.
