Summary:\n\nThe Operating Room Registered Nurse delivers comprehensive perioperative care to patients undergoing surgical procedures, with a focus on safety, comfort, and optimal outcomes. This role includes preparing the surgical environment, managing equipment and supplies, and working closely with the surgical team to provide coordinated, patient-centered care. The OR RN functions within a multidisciplinary team and upholds strict standards of patient safety, infection prevention, and professional ethics in a fast-paced surgical setting.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nPrepare the operating room by ensuring all instruments, equipment, and sterile supplies are available, functional, and properly set up for each procedure\nAssist with patient preparation and positioning for surgery, ensuring safety, comfort, and adherence to procedural requirements\nMaintain a sterile field throughout surgical cases and consistently follow aseptic technique and infection control standards\nAnticipate the needs of surgeons and the surgical team by providing instruments, supplies, and assistance to support efficient workflow\nMonitor patient status during procedures, documenting changes and communicating concerns to the surgeon as appropriate\nHandle surgical instruments and materials appropriately, ensuring correct use, sterilization, and disposal in accordance with facility guidelines\nManage specimen collection, labeling, and transport according to protocol to support accurate diagnostic processing\nComplete thorough and accurate documentation of perioperative nursing care\nParticipate in pre- and post-operative handoff communication to ensure safe continuity of care\nAssist with room turnover, including cleaning and restocking between surgical cases in line with infection control procedures\nCollaborate with the surgical team to maintain compliance with institutional policies, procedures, and standards\nFollow all hospital safety requirements, including PPE use and infection prevention practices\nPerform additional duties within scope of practice as assigned\n\nRequired Skills and Qualifications:\n\nStrong critical thinking skills, commitment to service excellence, and effective communication abilities\nProficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English\nAbility to interpret written instructions, follow verbal directions, and use computer systems effectively\nPhysical capability to remain stationary for extended periods, move throughout the operating room, and lift or maneuver equipment weighing 50–100 lbs, including pushing, pulling, and bending\nAbility to work collaboratively with a diverse surgical team while maintaining professionalism\nFine motor skills and coordination required for handling instruments and assisting in procedures\nAbility to perform effectively in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines\nCapacity to work independently or with occasional supervision as needed\nFlexibility to adapt to changing schedules and maintain attention to detail\nAdequate visual acuity and communication skills necessary for safe and effective performance
