Short Answer Questions

We encourage candidates to share responses that reflect their own experiences and perspectives. While AI tools like ChatGPT can be helpful, we're most interested in hearing your personal insights and unique experiences rather than AI-generated responses. It is your story that matters most to us.

Question 1: City Year is a program serving students who attend schools most in need of additional capacity. As a member, you will work as a team to create learning environments where all students can succeed. In addition to supporting students, City Year focuses on the leadership and professional development of members. Throughout the year, members will receive robust training, continual coaching, and feedback to help advance their personal and career goals.

Tell us about a personal experience or value that makes you want to work with City Year. In your response include 1-2 aspects of our program you're excited about AND 1-2 skills you'd like to develop during the year.

Question 2: City Year seeks to build positive school and work environments where everyone feels a sense of connection and community. We ask our members to think about how their experiences shape the way that they interact and build relationships with others.

Tell us about a time when you worked with someone or on a team with people who differed from you in work style, experiences, or perspectives. In your response, consider including how you differed from each other, how you worked together, or what you learned from them.

Recommendations

To make a final decision on your application, we require a completed recommendation form from a professional reference. A professional reference is someone who knows you from a work, volunteer, academic, or extracurricular capacity, such as a teacher/professor, advisor/coach, employer, coworker, or group project teammate. A professional reference cannot be a family member, neighbor, mentee, friend, or yourself.

Please note, once you submit your reference's contact information, an electronic recommendation request form will be emailed to them to be completed.

Position Overview

As a school day learning coach serving as an ASU City Year Student Success Coach (ASU SSC), your service will focus on coaching and mentoring elementary and high school students. This position is unique to the Phoenix location, and only students who are currently enrolled at ASU's Mary Lou Fulton College for Teaching and Learning Innovation are eligible to apply. Although the ASU SSC position will have similarities to other City Year Student Success Coach roles across the country, there are key differences in benefits and job scope.
