Date: Jun 29, 2026 Location: BRENHAM, TX Position: Direct Support Professional III (DSP III) Shift: Regular Night Salary Range: $3,649.83 - $4,594.50 per month Facility: Brenham State Supported Living Center, 4001 S HWY 36, BRENHAM Job Overview The Direct Support Professional III works as part of a team that assists people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in achieving their personal goals. The role involves routine care, behavior management, emergency response, documentation, and mentoring of newer staff. Responsibilities Provide direct care and support services, including grooming, bathing, feeding, lifting, positioning, and medication administration. Monitor and report individuals’ health status, behavior changes, and incidents to supervising staff. Implement habilitation and rehabilitation programs, positive behavior support plans, crisis intervention plans, and skills acquisition plans. Document individuals’ participation, progress, and any unusual incidents in electronic systems. Assist with transportation to scheduled activities and emergency situations. Maintain a safe, sanitary living environment and enforce infection control protocols. Respond to emergencies, including administration of first aid and CPR. Serve as shift or team lead when the DSP IV Lead/Charge is absent. Provide training, mentorship, and guidance to new DSPs. Participate in emergency response and continuity of operations activities as required. Essential Job Functions (EJFs) Attend work regularly and comply with assigned shift schedules, with possible overtime, rotating shifts, and weekend/holiday work. Implement individual care plans, behavior management, and crisis intervention strategies. Use positive behavior support plans, crisis intervention plans, and skills acquisition plans to teach daily living skills. Maintain accurate electronic records of care, observations, and incidents. Support individuals’ person‑centered treatment plans and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team. Observe individuals for medical or behavioral changes and report significant findings. Provide emergency care, including first aid and CPR, as needed. Assist with transportation and ensure individuals have the necessary information and safe travel. Prevent and manage safety hazards, enforce infection control, and follow abuse reporting procedures. Evacuate individuals during emergencies and complete required documentation. Maintain HHSC competency, training, and development standards. Assist or lead in disaster response, COOP activation, or other emergency activities. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of individual care techniques and developmental programs. Ability to read, write, and speak English. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Decision‑making and good judgment during critical incidents. Ability to remain calm and react quickly in emergencies. Proficiency in proper body mechanics, posture, and lifting techniques. Ability to provide first aid, CPR, Ukeru, and Safe Use of Restraint (SUR). Ability to train, mentor, or coach others. Team‑work skills and flexibility in handling assignments. Registrations, Licensure, or Certifications Required: Certified CPR, First Aid, Ukeru, and/or Safe Use of Restraint (SUR). Out‑of‑state driver’s license must be provided with an original certified driving record. Required Initial Screening Criteria High School diploma, GED, or 6 months of work experience. Preferred Qualifications Six (6) months of experience working with individuals who have mental health/intellectual developmental disabilities. Experience as a DSP. Experience implementing behavior programs for persons with intellectual developmental disabilities. Experience writing reports. Additional Information Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre‑employment drug screen, and registry checks. Males aged 18–25 must register with the Selective Service. All employees are subject to random drug testing. Flexibility in work hours, overtime, weekends, and holidays is required.
