Outdoor Adventures Lead Facilitator

Job Title Outdoor Adventures Lead Facilitator Position Summary The Department of Campus Recreation seeks an experienced facilitator to lead outdoor and adventure programs for the Penn State community and beyond. This tier‑2 leadership role directs a team of part‑time staff, ensures high‑quality customer service, implements risk‑management policies, and oversees daily operations across diverse settings including group‑based team‑building, climbing facilities, the Stone Valley Recreation Area, outdoor trip leading, and the Outdoor Adventures Rental Center. The position may involve driving university vehicles and trailers. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage a team of part‑time staff to deliver excellent customer service. Implement and uphold risk‑management policies and procedures. Oversee daily operations of programs and facilities in indoor and outdoor environments. Coordinate service delivery at the Stone Valley Recreation Area (boat rentals, climbing structures, facility rentals). Lead outdoor trips and manage the Outdoor Adventures Rental Center. Participate in university vehicle and trailer operations as required. Attend mandatory staff development workshops and training (Monday nights, 6‑8 p.m.). Qualifications Minimum of one semester of outdoor leadership experience, preferably within Campus Recreation. Commitment to personal and professional skill development. Knowledge of Campus Recreation and Outdoor Adventures programs, services, and facilities. Ability to work collaboratively in dynamic and challenging settings. All Lead Facilitators will receive Youth Worker and Peer‑to‑Peer Leadership training; additional training will be required for specific roles. Work Hours & Schedule The position requires a minimum of 1–2 afternoons/evenings per week and 5–6 weekends per semester. Programs may include overnight shifts. A minimum of 12–15 hours per week is expected, with potential for up to 24 hours per week.
