Research Analyst

Everytown for Gun Safety, the nation's leading advocate for gun violence prevention, is on the lookout for a motivated Research Analyst. Our Research Department is dedicated to understanding gun violence in America and identifying policies that effectively prevent and address this critical issue. In this role, you will engage in data analysis, visualization, literature reviews, and report writing to advance the science behind gun violence prevention. This is a full-time position based in New York, NY, offering a three-day in-office hybrid work model. You will report directly to the Research Director while also collaborating closely with the Senior Director of Everytown Labs. Key Responsibilities Manage the daily operations of EveryShot, an innovative AI tool that provides near real-time tracking of gun violence across the United States. Ensure data quality by conducting quality assurance on EveryShot's data at least twice a week. Assist in the validation process for EveryShot data. Help analyze and visualize trends from EveryShot's data reports. Support the collection, cleaning, and analysis of various local and national gun violence data sources, including the creation of dashboard visualizations. Contribute to Everytown's research outputs, such as online reports, peer-reviewed manuscripts, presentations, and other relevant research materials. Respond to research and data queries from various departments, including development and legislative teams. Participate as a research representative in relevant internal working groups. Explore topic areas like firearm trafficking, industry accountability, and the economic impact of gun violence (prior knowledge in these areas is not required). Assist with project coordination for Everytown Research and Everytown Labs, particularly across departments and with consultants. Identify areas for optimization, enhancements, and new AI use cases that can amplify Everytown's impact. Qualifications Master's degree in social science, public health, public policy, data science, or a related field, or a Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of research and data experience. Proficiency in R, Tableau, and Excel is essential. Familiarity with basic quantitative and statistical methodologies. Basic understanding of AI, with a deeper knowledge being a plus. Able to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills and enthusiasm for generating innovative research and policy ideas, along with a capability to quickly learn new systems. Demonstrated strong work ethic and ability to collaborate effectively. Comfortable working in a lively, open-plan office setting. Exceptional attention to detail.
