Schedule:

Full-time, Monday–Friday, 40 hours per week (½-hour unpaid lunch)

Evenings, weekends, and emergencies as required for parish and school operations

Position Summary

St. Anselm Parish and School seeks a dependable, hands-on Maintenance Director responsible for the safe operation, upkeep, cleanliness, and repair of all parish and school buildings and grounds.

This is not an office position. The Director is expected to perform repairs personally, carry out general custodial duties, oversee contractors, and ensure facilities are safe, clean, functional, and well maintained.

Required Qualifications (Applicants must meet these)

• Must be able to obtain and maintain all required clearances to work in a school environment

• Demonstrated experience in facilities maintenance, building trades, or similar field

• Strong working knowledge of boiler systems and HVAC equipment

• Practical skills in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general building repair

• Ability to diagnose mechanical and facility issues and implement solutions

• Experience supervising outside contractors and service vendors

• Ability to prioritize work independently with minimal supervision

• Physically able to perform manual labor (lifting, climbing ladders, snow removal, etc.)

• Reliable, trustworthy, and responsive to emergencies

Core Responsibilities

Daily Operations, Safety & Cleanliness

• Inspect buildings and grounds daily for safety, damage, and proper operation

• Monitor boilers, HVAC systems, lighting, drainage, and other mechanical equipment

• Address issues promptly to prevent disruption to school or parish activities

General Custodial Duties

• Empty trash and recycling throughout all parish and school buildings

• Sweep, mop, and maintain floors as needed

• Maintain clean, orderly common areas, entrances, and work spaces

• Respond to spills, weather-related messes, and other immediate cleaning needs

• Monitor and maintain restroom cleanliness when required

Maintenance & Repairs

• Perform general repairs including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting

• Replace bulbs, switches, outlets, ballasts, and minor plumbing fixtures

• Test emergency lighting, fire alarms, and smoke detectors regularly

• Replace smoke detector batteries during seasonal time changes

• Replace broken glass and address routine building wear and tear

Work Orders & Prioritization

• Collect and prioritize maintenance requests

• Submit items requiring approval to the Pastor

• Schedule and complete approved work efficiently

Contractors & Projects

• Determine when outside contractors are required

• Coordinate bids as directed by the Pastor

• Supervise contractors on site and verify work quality

• Ensure service contracts are followed and current

Grounds & Exterior Maintenance

• Keep drains, gutters, and downspouts clear

• Oversee landscaping services

• Maintain clean, safe grounds

Snow & Ice Management

• Coordinate with snow removal contractor

• Maintain adequate salt and sand supplies

• Deploy equipment and materials as needed

Security & Access

• Lock and unlock school facilities as required

• Secure church building

• Provide access to authorized service providers (meter readers, exterminators, etc.)

Event Support

• Set up and break down chairs, tables, booths, and equipment for parish events and carnival

Communication & Oversight

• Maintain organized records of maintenance activities and contracts

• Coordinate facility matters with the Pastor and Principal

• Attend and report at Facilities Committee meetings at least four (4) times per year
