This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. Candidates performs welding processes on aluminum, steel, and alloy parts and assemblies to required tolerances using welding metals and metal alloys and precision blending using hand tools to prepare metallic surfaces for welding and non-destructive evaluation. Determines layouts and welds parts and assemblies according to engineering drawings and specifications. Monitors and verifies quality in accordance with statistical processes or other control procedures. Joins metal parts to form a permanent bond. Welds metal components and parts using standard specialized equipment such as gas welders and gas torches and may also utilize friction stir welding (FSW) methods using solid-state joining. Uses electrical currents or friction to create heat and bond metals. Observes tests on welded surfaces to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications. Set up and operate large, motion-controlled machines to create friction stir welds on launch vehicles. Perform periodic maintenance on machines with complex pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical systems. Accurately use precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and torque wrenches. You will be responsible for welding multiple aluminum alloys using the GTAW welding process and the manufacture, assembly, and test for various spaceflight systems. You will be supporting production and development related activities that directly affect rocket launch vehicles and spacecraft. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required! Qualifications: 3+ years' experience with DC- and AC-TIG welding of aerospace stainless steels and aluminum alloys. Ability to interpret engineering drawings. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; and the ability to document and maintain accurate records. Ability to use precision hand tools, standard mechanical tools and fabrication shop equipment. Ability to develop fixtures/tooling. Familiar with use of personal computers. Ability to support Monday through Thursday 1st shift (A shift) 5am - 3:30pm and additional weekend overtime as requested. Desired: Orbital welding experience or knowledge. Familiarity with tube fabrication (bend, flare, fittings, etc.) and pressurized system safety. Knowledgeable in the use of 3-D CAD tools (CREO is preferred), and ability to read and interpret GD&T per ASME Y14.5M-1994 standard. Knowledge of drawing review, scheduling and work order systems, inventory and various issue tracking systems.
