About the Program 

The Rye YMCA, in partnership with Novella Prep and the Mamaroneck Union Free School  District, is launching the mY Avenue program — the Mamaroneck Avenue School Academic  Enrichment Initiative — funded through Westchester County's Invest in Kids grant. This free  afterschool program serves students in grades 4–5 at Mamaroneck Avenue School (MAS), a  Title I school where more than half of students are economically disadvantaged, 19% are  English Language Learners, and 20% are students with disabilities. The program combines  homework help, executive functioning skill-building, and supportive enrichment in a safe,  structured setting. 

Novella Prep, a Rye-based education services organization specializing in executive  functioning, study skills, and curriculum design, provides the program curriculum, pre-service  training, and ongoing coaching. Novella Prep motivates and teaches students how to achieve  their academic potential, empowering students from the inside out with core skills and strategies  that foster long-term academic and personal success. The Rye YMCA delivers staffing, program  management, and family engagement, and administers all hiring and payroll for this position. 

Position Overview 

The Rye YMCA is hiring two teachers to lead daily afterschool sessions at Mamaroneck Avenue  School. Teachers deliver Novella Prep's executive functioning curriculum — organization, time  management, planning, and self-regulation — embedded in daily homework support, serving  two cohorts of 60 students in grades 4–5 (one cohort per semester, with a monthly check-in  session for the off-semester cohort). 

Because this program is built around Mamaroneck Avenue School and its students, current  MAS teachers and staff are strongly encouraged to apply. This position is subject to grant  funding. 

Schedule & Compensation

• Four days per week, two hours per day, directly after dismissal (approximately 8  program hours per week, plus team meetings and planning) 
• $60 per hour 
• Anticipated start: Fall 2026, shortly after the school year begins, running through the  school year 
• On-site at Mamaroneck Avenue School; employment and payroll administered by the  Rye YMCA 

Responsibilities 

• Lead daily afterschool sessions combining homework help with executive functioning  instruction, using Novella Prep's curriculum and templates 
• Teach and model executive functioning skills — organization, time management,  planning, task initiation, focus, and self-regulation — with direct application to  schoolwork 
• Support students' study skills, note-taking, writing, and focus strategies, and provide  academic enrichment opportunities 
• Ensure students complete homework during program hours; track progress and adapt  support by grade level and individual need 
• Adapt activities so English Language Learners and students with disabilities are fully  included, using culturally responsive, trauma-informed practices 
• Foster independence, confidence, and responsibility in students; incorporate student  voice through activity choices, goal-setting, and simple leadership roles - Build supportive relationships as a mentor and role model, reinforcing YMCA values of  caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility 
• Maintain daily logs of attendance and homework completion; support surveys and  outcome reporting 
• Communicate regularly with families (bilingual communication where possible),  classroom teachers, YMCA staff, and Novella Prep staff, providing clear progress  updates 
• Attend team meetings to discuss student growth and areas for improvement - Complete paid pre-service training and participate in ongoing coaching with Novella  Prep 
• Follow all safety, supervision, data privacy, and compliance procedures, including site  observation visits from Westchester County Youth Bureau staff 
• Additional responsibilities, as assigned 

Requirements 

• New York State teaching certification (special education certification preferred) - Minimum 4 years of teaching experience; elementary experience preferred - Experience supporting diverse learners, including English Language Learners and  students with disabilities
• Strong skills in executive functioning instruction, time management, organization, and  student engagement 
• Completion of Novella Prep's pre-service training and participation in ongoing coaching  (provided and paid) 
• Completion of YMCA staff training in cultural competence, disability inclusion, trauma informed care, de-escalation, and positive behavior strategies (provided) - Successful completion of a background check prior to start 
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills 
• Ability to work in person at MAS four afternoons per week 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Current or former Mamaroneck Avenue School / Mamaroneck UFSD educator (strongly  preferred) 
• Bilingual (Spanish–English) 
• Experience in afterschool, out-of-school-time, or Title I programs 
• Familiarity with executive functioning frameworks and social-emotional learning
