Position Overview

Our Food Service Specialist plays a vital role in supporting client recovery by preparing consistent, nutritious meals in a safe, respectful, and trauma-informed environment. Food service staff are integral members of the Harbor House team and contribute to structure, dignity, and emotional safety for clients.

Food service staff may not provide clinical services, but their consistency, tone, and professionalism play a critical role in creating a safe and stable environment where healing can occur.
Core Responsibilities

• Prepare three well-balanced meals daily according to Harbor House menus and standards

• Follow recipes and food preparation guidelines accurately

• Maintain proper food storage, labeling, and dating

• Monitor inventory and report shortages

• Maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and organization of the kitchen

• Follow ServSafe, infection control, and the Mississippi Department of Health guidelines

Food Service Specialists at Harbor House are expected to communicate calmly and respectfully, maintain professional boundaries, use de-escalation strategies when stress arises, and accept supervision and feedback as part of professional growth. Trauma-informed care at Harbor House means that care and accountability work hand in hand.

Requirements

Position Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or equivalent. No waiver of education shall be granted.
2. One year of cooking experience preferably in a healthcare setting. Other cooking experience will be considered.
3. ServSafe certification or the ability to obtain certification.
4. Ability to read and follow recipes.
5. Basic math. `
6. Knowledge of Mississippi Department of Health guidelines.
7. Must be able to take instructions and follow through on instructions.
8. Valid driver's license.
