Stony Brook University: Health Sciences: Renaissance School of Medicine: Pediatrics Open Date Sep 02, 2026 Deadline Nov 02, 2026 at 11:59 PM Eastern Time Description Position Summary The NNP Leader oversees the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner team and supports high-quality, evidence-based care in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). This role provides clinical leadership, coordinates staffing and scheduling, facilitates education and professional development, and leads outreach initiatives that strengthen relationships with internal and external partners. The NNP Leader collaborates with medical directors, nursing leadership, and administrative teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes and operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities Serve as the primary point of contact and leader for the NNP team. Ensure adherence to clinical standards, scope of practice, and regulatory requirements. Support quality improvement initiatives, clinical protocols, and patient-safety programs. Participate in staffing decisions, recruitment, orientation, and performance evaluations for NNP staff. 2. Scheduling & Workforce Management Create, manage, and maintain the NNP schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage consistent with patient-care needs. Monitor clinical workload, staffing patterns, and productivity metrics. Coordinate PTO approval, schedule swaps, and coverage for unplanned absences. Collaborate with leadership on staffing models, FTE allocation, and onboarding plans. 3. Education & Professional Development Develop and lead ongoing education programs for NNPs, including clinical skills, evidence-based practice updates, and new equipment or procedures. Coordinate onboarding, competency validation, and mentorship for new NNPs. Provide continuing education opportunities, journal clubs, simulations, and case reviews. Support NNP participation in conferences, certifications, and advanced training. 4. Outreach & Community/Regional Relations Represent the NNP team in outreach efforts with referring hospitals, transport teams, and community partners. Develop and deliver educational outreach programs for regional clinicians, nurses, and providers. Support collaborative initiatives that improve neonatal stabilization, transport processes, and early referrals. Participate in community events, parent education programs, and hospital-sponsored outreach activities. 5. Administrative & Operational Coordination Assist with policy development, workflow optimization, and integration of best practices. Track and report metrics related to staffing, outcomes, educational activities, and quality initiatives. Support accreditation activities and compliance with state, national, and organizational standards. Serve on relevant committees and interprofessional working groups. Strong leadership, team-building, and communication skills. Expertise in neonatal assessment, management, and evidence-based practice. Ability to coordinate complex schedules and manage staffing needs. Skilled educator with experience teaching diverse learners. Strong organizational and project-management skills. Ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines and settings. Qualifications Required Qualifications Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing with a focus in Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Current natiional certification as an NNP State APRN/NNP licensure Minimum 3-5 years of clinical experience as an NNP, preferably in a Level III or IC NICU Preferred Qualifications Additional coursework or certification in leadership, education, or management Prior leadership, education, or supervisory experience Special Notes Non-Tenure Track position.
