Mental Health Licensed Practical Nurse

Overview Mental Health LPNs and LVNs are needed to join our team in Wetumpka, AL, where we provide health care to individuals incarcerated in the Alabama Department of Corrections - Julia Tutwiler Women's Prison. Full‑time and part‑time positions may be available. As a Correctional Nurse, you will work with correctional officers and medical professionals to provide care, perform physical assessments, administer medications, manage chronic illnesses, and respond to emergencies. This unique position allows you to make a difference to a diverse patient population with complex medical needs. New graduates are encouraged to apply – we will train you in correctional healthcare. Responsibilities As an LPN, you will play a critical role in our mission to provide quality health care that protects the rights, dignity, and health of our patients. Duties may include: Perform patient assessments and interview patients about current health problems and medication history. Take vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, and weight. Provide wound care, cleaning and bandaging injured areas. Administer medication, including injections, and monitor reactions. Maintain medical records in the electronic health record, TechCare. Observe patient and mental health status. Provide emergency first aid. Provide patient education and discharge/release planning. Qualifications Education / Licenses / Certifications / Requirements Graduate from a Licensed Practical Nursing program. High school diploma or equivalent (GED). State‑certified as a Licensed Vocational Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse. Obtain BLS CPR certification (AHA preferred). Ability to interact effectively with patients from diverse backgrounds, including those with mental health or substance abuse issues. Maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and confidential information and adhere to a code of conduct and facility policies. Pass the facility's criminal background check and drug screening. Physical Capabilities Must be able to stand for long periods, lift and move patients (up to 50 pounds), bend, squat, reach, push, pull, walk significant distances, and perform physically demanding tasks such as CPR while maintaining good balance and endurance during a shift.
