Duties

Help

• Operates an electric powered lift trucks having a lift capacity up to 4,000 pounds and capable of carrying, lifting, and stacking loads of metal and debris waste of varying dimensions.
• Receives incoming and outgoing shipments including new procurement, receipts and returns from using activities.
• Processes and verifies quantities and condition of materials and equipment.
• Checks for property/part number, nomenclature, quantity, and condition for agreement with accompanying documents.
• Completes and maintains a log of incoming shipment.

• You must be a current Career or Career Conditional GPO employee to apply.
• Selectees must pass a physical examination prior to appointment.
• Strength test may be required.
• Selectee may be requiremed to serve a one-year probationary period.
• Males born after 12/03/59 must be registered for Selective Service.
• Work Conditions: Work is frequently performedin a warehouse environment, indoors, usually on concrete floors and warehouse areas that may not be climate controlled.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a license to operate a powered fork lift.
• Must possess a valid State or District of Columbia Driver's License.
• Selectee may be required to pass all preemployment requirements prior to appointment.
• Physical - Effort: Duties require Moderate lifting for objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Incumbent is required to have good eye-hand coordination and proficient vision.
• Selectee may be required work occassional overtime, including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position, you must meet the following requirements : Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a Materials Handler. These duties require skill in

Operating forklifts, pallet jacks, or similar material handling equipment.

Receiving, inspecting, and processing incoming and outgoing shipments.

Storing, stacking, palletizing, and moving materials within a warehouse environment.

Maintaining inventory records and shipping/receiving documentation..

Applicants must meet the following Screen-Out element , Job Element 73 Ability to do the work of a Materials Handler (PPW) without more than normal supervision to be considered for this position. Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the online questionnaire. In addition to the requirements above, GPO employees competing under merit promotion procedures must meet all of the following criteria in accordance with Federal Merit Promotion Plan, GPO Instruction 615.2C (Appendix B): 1. Have completed a formal, recognized apprenticeship or GPO journeyperson training program, or possess substantially equivalent practical experience in the trade of the vacancy; AND 2. Have at least 1 year of journeyperson experience subsequent to completion of the above apprenticeship or training; AND 3. Have served a minimum of 1 year in Career or Career-Conditional appointment in the GPO.(add supervisory statement from MP Plan). 4. Have served at least 1 year in an administrative or supervisory capacity.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.

Background Investigation:

To ensure the accomplishment of its mission, the GPO requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully completed a background investigation for a Suitability. This review could include financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs. Depending on the type of background investigation required, the security process may take between 6 weeks to 12 months.

The agency may rescind the tentative offer, if the candidate is unable to obtain an interim clearance.
