Veterinary Extern - General Practice

Job Description An externship experience at an NVA hospital will give students the unique opportunity to understand the day‑to‑day operations of the practice and to gain valuable hands‑on clinical experience. Although every NVA hospital is unique, we all share a supportive environment, a commitment to excellent medicine, and a dedication to exceptional service for animals and their owners. Students will work closely with supervising Associate Veterinarians to gather patient histories, perform physical exams, create treatment plans, conduct diagnostics, provide dentistry services, observe or assist in surgical procedures, and manage patients medically. In addition to practicing clinical skills, externs will develop communication skills with the medical team, support staff, and clients. Most externship experiences at White Oaks West Animal Hospital last two to eight weeks, depending on student and hospital schedules. All veterinary students, regardless of class year, are encouraged to participate. About the Hospital Three exam rooms, two treatment rooms, and a surgical suite Twenty computer stations including one in each exam room Digital dental X‑rays and a dental suite Wet table and new surgery table Ultrasound Endoscope Class 4 therapeutic laser Mobile isoflurane anesthesia machines Full Idexx suite, Idexx referral lab, and Idexx DR digital X‑ray system Services include nutritional counseling, wellness exams, dental care, spay and neuters, and more Avimark management software Travel/living expense stipend: $1,500 for eligible veterinary students in the clinical portion of their education.
