Primary Shift: 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) / Surgical Tech to support an Operating Room team in a high-acuity acute care hospital and teaching environment.

The ideal candidate will have strong recent Operating Room experience and be comfortable scrubbing a broad range of general and specialty surgical procedures, including trauma, orthopedics, ENT, vascular, GYN, neurosurgery, bariatric, and GU cases.

Candidates should be able to perform general Surgical Tech responsibilities with minimal orientation and supervision while maintaining strict sterile technique and patient safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Provide Surgical Technologist support during operative procedures.
• Perform required scrub duties and maintain a sterile field throughout surgical procedures.
• Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment.
• Assist surgical teams during general and specialty surgical procedures.
• Demonstrate knowledge and experience with trauma and complex surgical cases.
• Maintain proper sterile technique and infection prevention practices.
• Anticipate the needs of surgeons and other members of the surgical team.
• Assist with appropriate handling, organization, and preparation of surgical instruments and supplies.
• Follow established hospital policies, safety standards, and Operating Room protocols.
• Maintain patient safety and professional standards at all times.
• Communicate effectively with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Training

• Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology education/training program or equivalent required.

Required Certification & Licensure

• Current Surgical Technologist certification – Required.
• Candidate must be appropriately certified and eligible to work as a Surgical Technologist.

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 3 years of recent Operating Room experience within the last 4 years – Required.
• Recent experience in an acute care facility of similar or equivalent complexity – Required.
• Scrub experience – Required.
• Level 1 trauma center and/or teaching hospital experience strongly preferred.
• Strong experience with general surgery and specialty surgical procedures, including:
  • Trauma
  • Orthopedics
  • Neurosurgery
  • Vascular
  • ENT
  • Bariatric
  • GU
  • GYN
• Strong knowledge of Operating Room procedures and sterile technique.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to perform general Surgical Tech duties with minimal orientation and supervision.
• Strong understanding of infection prevention and patient safety practices.

Additional Requirements

• First-time travelers may be considered only if they have experience working in hospitals of comparable size, acuity, and complexity.
• Candidate must be able to independently perform required Surgical Tech duties in an acute care setting with minimal supervision.
• Must successfully complete required pre-employment health clearance.
• Candidate must not have a professional license or certification that has been suspended or subject to disqualifying investigation.
• COVID-19 vaccination is not required.
• Flu vaccination is not required.
• First Assist experience is not applicable to this position in New York State.

Schedule Details

• 13-week contract assignment.
• 40 hours per week.
• Five (5) shifts per week.
• Primarily 8-hour shifts.
• Primary scheduled shift: 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM .
• Evening Surgical Tech coverage is required.
• Schedule may include a combination of 8-hour and 12-hour shifts based on department needs.
• Possible shift times include:
  • 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM
  • 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM
  • 11:00 AM – 11:30 PM
