Medical AssistantThe Medical Assistant supports the mission of People's Community Clinic by helping ensure that patients are served in a manner that enhances their dignity and welfare and that clinic resources are used efficiently and in accordance with PCC policies and risk management protocols.This position works as a member of a care team to coordinate patient care and support patients and families in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Care team members are expected to assess and manage the health needs of the patient population and to communicate effectively with all patients, especially vulnerable populations.North Clinic Location: St. David's Medical Center Pavilion 1025 East 32nd Street, Suite 200 Austin, Texas 78705Compensation: $22.00 - $25.25 per hour based on experience and qualifications.Schedule: Monday-Friday: 7:45am-5:00pm. This position requires employee to work at least one evening clinic per week (Monday, Wednesday or Thursday), the schedule will be adjusted to 11:45am-8:00pm in place of the standard day time schedule. Other schedules may be consider based on operational needs.ResponsibilitiesUnder the supervision of the Medical Assistant Supervisor, this individual's primary job responsibilities include:Greet patients and escort them to assigned examination roomDocument appropriate history, vital signs and chief complaint for visit typePrepare the patient for appropriate visit typeAssist the provider during treatment and/or proceduresAdminister and store medications according to clinic policyMake referrals as appropriate and necessary, as per procedureCollect lab specimens and escort patients to labAdminister immunizations and injections as appropriate and requestedIdentify opportunities to improve workflow, work processes and patient care, and work cooperatively to implement these and other quality improvements.Adhere to HIPAA guidelines.Ensure exam room readiness and adequacy of tools, instruments and exam area supplies, including:Maintaining proper inventory and stocking exam/treatment room with supplies, instruments and equipmentFollowing risk management protocols in exam room environmentCleaning and disinfecting non-consumable instruments according to established proceduresMaintaining order and cleanliness of nursing station, chart areas, utility rooms and examination rooms.Assist nursing personnel in administrative/clerical duties by:Assisting in locating patient referral resourcesAssisting in follow-up paperworkEnsuring all in-house labs are entered into EMRAnswering exam area telephone when available and routing calls to appropriate personnelRetrieving charts for call back as neededNotifying patients of lab results following PCC procedures.QualificationsEducation: High School Diploma/GEDExperience: Successful completion of MA externshipKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Demonstrated knowledge of protocols for MAs relating to patient care, provider assistance, exam rooms and records maintenanceBilingual in English/Spanish preferredExcellent customer service skills and ability to interact effectively with a diverse populationSelf-starter; able to work with minimal supervisionStrong oral and written communication skillsPatient, flexible and able to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentCertificate/License:Certification must be completed within the first 90 days of employment and may be reimbursed by PCC.Medical Assistant CertificationCPR CertifiedOur Benefits Include:18 PTO days per year & 11 paid holidaysMajor Medical Health Insurance Coverage.
