MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

Job Description And Duties Position exists in Plant Operations at Porterville Developmental Center. Under the supervision of the Chief Engineer II, the incumbent inspects, maintains, and repairs plumbing, heating, water, and sewer systems; does electrical maintenance and repair work; repairs laundry, farm, shop, and automotive equipment; does miscellaneous minor building construction and repair work; does miscellaneous interior and exterior painting; refinishes furniture; estimates and requisitions materials and supplies; keeps tools and equipment in good condition; keeps records and prepares reports. This position is not eligible for telework; it is in person only. Working Conditions Typical Physical Demands Must possess and maintain sufficient strength, agility, endurance, and sensory ability to perform the duties contained in the duty statement. Lifting of up to 50 pounds alone is required. Lifting may often be combined with pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, squatting, grabbing, carrying, kneeling, twisting, and reaching at, or above, shoulder level. Includes bending and twisting, sitting, standing, and walking most of the time, with or working on irregular surfaces, and periodically requires extraordinary physical activity. Overtime may be required to ensure the operational needs of the facility are met. May work in places with limited ventilation and extreme heat. Typical Working Conditions Incumbents will be exposed to all clinical and support services areas of the facility. Potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood‑borne pathogens and other conditions common to a clinical nursing environment. Ongoing interaction with personnel and the public. This position requires problem‑solving skills and ability to communicate effectively. Overtime may be required.
