Supervisory Wildland Firefighter (Type 1 Wildland Fire Module (WFM) Handcrew)

Summary These positions will be located at a USDA Forest Service Unit. The primary responsibility is for leadership of a highly effective wildland fire module associated with the planning and implementation of planned and unplanned wildland fire and hazardous fuels operations. See ADDITIONAL INFORMATION for Regional contacts. Major Duties Supervises a group of employees. Establishes guidelines and performance expectations of employees. Recognizes, reacts to, and communicates changes in predicted weather, fire behavior, topography, and fuel types, and adapts planned strategies and tactics to identify and relocate firelines, escape routes, and safety zones. Participates in incidents involving wildland‑urban interface situations. Plans and implements work activities such as setting priorities, identifying objectives, coordinating resources, vehicles, supplies, equipment, developing job hazard analysis, and conducting job skill training. Assigns resources, conducts safety meetings, monitors work quality and quantity, tracks budget expenditures, and reports work progress and project accomplishments. Develops, implements, and executes prescribed burn plans. Performs wildfire suppression support as directed within training and physical capabilities and other duties as assigned. Education This position does not have an education qualification requirement. Compensation Salary range is the locality pay for the Rest of U.S. (RUS).
